Holiday Overwhelm Series 3 of 3! ⬇️
We know that going back to school/ work after the holidays can be overwhelming and challenging. We also know that you may be cooped up with your kiddos this weekend which can present its own challenges...😵💫
Short days, big emotions, busy schedules, lots of excitement can leave kids (and adults!) dysregulated. One of the fastest ways to improve regulation is... MOVEMENT!
Gross motor movement helps the body reset, release stress and increase regulation.
Try these simple (and low prep!) activities to support your child's body & mind-- Physical Therapy style!
1. Holiday Heavy Work (Carry empty boxes across the room, push laundry baskets filled with blankets, help shovel snow or push a broom indoors!)
2. Animal Walks (Bear walk to the bathroom, crab walk down the hallway, penguin waddle to get dressed!)
3. Jump it Out (Jump off couch cushions, jump over wrapping paper "rivers" or box "rocks", count jumps or spell names while jumping!)
4. Wall and Floor Work (Wall push-ups, plank contests, wheelbarrow walks!)
Gross motor + heavy work gives kids the sensory input they need to release stress, regulate emotions and improve attention-- especially during busy, cold and/or overstimulating seasons.
Playing with your kids INTENTIONALLY may seem small, but it makes a BIG difference. 🤩
If you try some of these activities while you're snowed in, post them in the comments! We'd love to cheer your family on!
Our passion here at PTA is to support you supporting your family.🤝
