YLP February Session – Body Image & Etiquette

The Youth Leadership Program’s February session sparked thoughtful conversation as youth leaders explored body image and etiquette through engaging activities and peer-led discussion.

We were also excited to welcome The Training Source Board member Valerie Jones, who shared her career journey in the federal government and military background, inspiring questions and curiosity from our students.

The day also included a special visit from Delta Kappa Gamma, a group of educators who have previously partnered with The Training Source. In preparation for their annual meeting held at our facility, they organized a professional clothing donation drive and delivered the items to support our participants.

The visit also created a meaningful moment of cross-generational engagement, as YLP members Doug and Lariena shared their experiences in the Youth Leadership Program and how it has strengthened their leadership, confidence, and presentation skills.

One educator later shared:

“Those of us who attended were very impressed with your youth work and the services that you provide for the community. The Training Source clearly fills a void.”

Moments like these highlight the power of community partnerships and mentorship in helping young leaders grow and thrive.

🎓 Celebrating Our First OPST Graduates of 2026!

Last week, 7 participants successfully completed The Training Source’s first Office & Professional Services Training (OPST) cohort of 2026.

During Weeks 3–5 of the 8-week program, inclement weather required adapting to a hybrid learning model and returned in person to finish strong. Their dedication showed in the results: 100% of participants earned the Certified Guest Service Professional credential, averaging 94% on the certification exam and completing Microsoft Office Suites technical training.

We’re also excited to welcome new trainer Korey Dean. Professor Dean, partnered with Deputy Director Lynnette Pair Young to guide and support the cohort through challenges and growth along the way – ensuring they embodied The Training Source’s “Engineered for Excellence” standard. Alongside Executive Director Nekeisia Booyer and Board Chair Josephine Scarlet, they joined together to congratulate the graduates during the certification ceremony.

Graduates now move into Phase II: Job Search Assistance, where they’ll continue professional development and strengthen strategies to advance their career pathways.

✨ To celebrate their journey, the cohort even turned the “Engineered for Excellence” creed into a song during graduation.

🎶 Take a listen to their performance towards the end of the slideshow!

In December 2025, The Training Source launched its first Federal Laid-Off & Dislocated Workers Training Program in response to the 2025 federal workforce reduction orders that impacted thousands of residents across Prince George’s County and the Greater Washington Area.

Over 7 weeks of in-person and virtual training, participants strengthened their career transition skills, completed up to six professional development courses (including Microsoft Office and Project Management), and earned the Guest Service Professional Certification with a 92% average exam score. Eleven of the thirteen participants successfully completed the pilot, with one participant earning a perfect 100% across all six courses and two other participants scored 100% on the certification exam.

Special thanks to Executive Director Nekeisia Booyer for her strategic leadership and vision in supporting affected federal workers, to Lynnette Pair Young, Deputy Director, for designing and facilitating this impactful pilot, and to our Board of Directors for their continued feedback and support.

We look forward to expanding future cohorts in 2026.

✨ Kicking off 2026 with Purpose & Flexibility ✨

We hope everyone is staying warm and safe during the inclement weather impacting our region—and much of the country. As conditions shift, so do we, always with our participants’ safety and well-being at the center.

Last Saturday, The Training Source’s Youth Leadership Program (YLP) kicked off its first session of 2026 by pivoting to a virtual format due to weather concerns. In close coordination with the YLP Coordinator and Executive Director, our Youth Leaders facilitation team ensured the session remained engaging, impactful, and meaningful.

The session explored key relationship dynamics—including family, peer, spiritual, and dating relationships—with 21 of our highly engaged leaders. Through polls, interactive activities, and guided discussion, our young leaders showed up ready to learn, reflect, and grow.
