Happy National Coffee Day! ☕ Love your morning brew, but noticing sleep issues, anxiety, or hot flashes? Coffee can worsen these for some in (peri)menopause, but it’s not all bad! It may also boost mood, focus, and fight fatigue. Keep a diary to track caffeine’s effects, adjust timing, reduce intake, or try decaf to find your balance. Enjoy your coffee wisely!

Golden Milk

The perfect nightcap for restful sleep!

Grate 1½" turmeric root (or ½ tsp dried) and ½" ginger (or ½ tsp dried). Mix with 1 tbsp honey, a pinch of black pepper, and cinnamon. Heat 1 cup almond or cow’s milk (don’t boil). Stir a few tablespoons of hot milk into the spice paste, then combine with the rest of the milk. Sip 30 minutes before bed for a calming, restful night.

Enjoy!

Are you feeling like a red-faced tomato lately?

Menopause and perimenopause can make many of us feel like we are perpetually blushing, but in reality, our shifting hormones can cause or exacerbate rosacea. And coincidentally, one of the best ways to fight rosacea, naturally, is with lycopene, which is found in, you guessed it, tomatoes.

Here are some lycopene-rich foods you can add to your diet to see your best skin yet!

School has barely started back, but many of us are already dreading the holiday season. For many women, from Halloween to New Year's Day, there is just an avalanche of activity! The stress of planning travel, creating family memories, upholding traditions, and the extra cooking, cleaning, and gift-giving is a lot. No wonder so many of us are feeling more Grinchy and less merry.

What I want you to do this season is remember yourself. Put yourself at the top of your list every day. Make sure you're getting adequate sleep, rest, and merriment. If that means buying a pre-cooked turkey or saying no to optional obligations, do it. Your best gift to your loved ones is a Mom/partner/friend who is not a burned-out stress monster.

Remember:
- Take time for winter walks.
- Eat well.
- Stay hydrated.
- Get your flu shot, your vaccines, and take your vitamins!

You're watching your favorite medical drama, and the character begins sweating, gets red-faced, groans, and clutches at their chest before collapsing to their knees and being rushed off to the ER. A classic heart attack, right? You've seen it a million times before!

Maybe not!

Hollywood scriptwriters aside, there's a world of heart attack symptoms, and they can differ between men and women.

Women's heart attacks can present with:

Extreme fatigue, especially when combined with muscle weakness
Nausea/vomiting
Indigestion/heartburn
Severe jaw and/or back pain
Left arm/shoulder pain
Chest pain/Shortness of breath

If you're feeling these symptoms out of nowhere, for example, just going about your everyday tasks, take it seriously. That can feel dramatic, but you're better off dramatic than dead. Too many women are "too busy" to have a heart attack, but you know yourself, unusual symptoms require PROMPT action.

Is it normal to gain 30 lbs in a year? The short answer is NO!

While gaining 10-15 lbs can happen during perimenopause or menopause, 30 lbs in such a short time isn't typical. As a Naturopathic doctor, I often see this and recommend a thorough check-up. Start with hormone level tests; imbalances could be the cause. Also, look for any underlying issues or lifestyle changes.

As we age, managing weight requires more effort: regular exercise, mindful eating, and good sleep. If weight gain is fast, it might signal something more serious, like thyroid issues or masses.

👉 Talk to your healthcare provider about tests and lifestyle tips. Early action is key! For more insights, visit my website at https://rootsofhealthwa.com/understanding-thyroid-disorders-in-women/
