Seattle Children's Hospital

Seattle Children's Hospital We are honored to be recognized as one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals. U.S. This isn't about beating the odds. This is about changing them.

News & World Report has recognized Seattle Children’s as a top children’s hospital every year since it began ranking medical facilities more than 25 years ago. We fight relentlessly to make sure there’s no such thing as “out of options” and to make sure kids who “didn't have a chance” can have the childhoods they deserve. At Seattle Children’s, we’re united by a compelling mission: We provide hope, care and cures to help every child live the healthiest and most fulfilling life possible. Together, we deliver superior patient care, advance new discoveries and treatments through pediatric research and serve as the pediatric and adolescent academic medical center for Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho – the largest region of any children’s hospital in the country. If your child is experiencing a healthcare emergency, call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room.

Earlier this month, the Black and African Heritage Network and Friends Connection Group, and our Nutrition Services Department teamed up to celebrate a food technique born from resilience: The Art of Smothering.

Smothering is a cornerstone of Soul Food, born from the ingenuity of African cooks in the Deep South who were often left with scraps and the toughest cuts of meat.

Drawing on West African, French, and Spanish culinary traditions, they used slow, stove-top braising to transform poor ingredients into nourishing, flavorful meals, creating a lasting culinary staple rooted in resilience and creativity.

8-year-old Camden from Tacoma was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor two years ago. Innovative research at Seattle Children's made it possible for doctors to use DNA testing to determine treatment rather than risky surgery.

Camden's care has been directly impacted at every stage by research, much of which has been made possible with funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Camden and his mom shared their story with U.S. Senator Patty Murray.

Today, Camden is a thriving second grader who loves art and science, and sees his future in medicine
