Christmas trees in November might be part of the problem too.

But that's another topic for another day.

The story you keep telling yourself is causing you much more suffering than any sheet cake could.

Once you understand this – you unlock the opportunity for enjoying cake when you feel like it, eating salad when you crave it, and walking away satisfied in both instances without another thought about it.

🚨 Stop getting mad at the fire alarm and let it save your life!

Once you get to the other side…

Shoving a whole pack of Oreos into your mouth, following it up with a Fresca fast, only to end the day with a granola and skinny cow binge…

Will seem impossible.

There's light at the end of the tunnel. 🕯️

Binge eating backsliding = being the "good patient".

Saying yes to everything the doctor tells me is the shortest way to keep writing the binge restrict roller coaster. 🎢

Collaboration with my medical providers is how I hopped off the ride and blazed my own trail out of obsessive food suffering.

If you're on the roller coaster or you're trying to stay off of it –make sure to implement these strategies.

What else would you add?

I'm not opposed to friends…

I'm open.

I'm just no longer willing to go along with the status quo or pretend in order to not be alone.

And I want you to know, that you can still fully recover from an eating disorder and run fast again even if you find yourself alone.

Drop a ❤️ in the comments if anything about this resonated with you.

Wounds don't heal in the malnourished.

A British doctor in Gaza recently reported on democracy now that people are so malnourished to the point where she'll clean out a wound and it will instantly become infected again.

Wounds need adequate nutrition to heal.

Yet –of all we know about malnutrition and it's affects on the bodies of people with eating disorders as well as the poor performance of distance runners –this hasn't stopped a whole population from being starved.

In this Insta essay I argue we must make the connection between starvation as a tool of occupation, running as a strategy of survival and eating disorders in distance runners if we're serious about change.

This is for my distance runners with eating disorders who like to read!

I strive to be as accurate as possible yet I am human. If you find inaccuracies please feel free to describe them in the comments or DM me.

You know you’d be unbeatable…⤵️

If you could just get consistent training in. 🏃🏿‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏾‍♀️‍➡️🏃🏼‍♀️‍➡️

As much as you stay positive this back-and-forth with injuries and Lost time on the roads has you feeling anxious and angry.

How are you going to maintain your scholarship?

How are you going to keep your place on the team?

How are you ever gonna be in a position for sponsorship?

If you can’t train consistently all of these are out the window.

And you’re left with the pain of sitting on shattered glass.

And you know this –that’s why you train through exhaustion, pain, and a packed schedule.

But that type of consistency Will only lead to a back-and-forth with the sideline bench.

You need the type of consistency that only a deep connection and trust with your body can give you.

One where you can miss a day from exhaustion and get stronger in the process.

One where pain is your inner coach guiding you through training mileage, speed, and terrain choices.

One where you continue to get faster year after year because you’re willing to take a week off rather than sit on the bench and cross train for six months.

Sound impossible?

Then it’s time to get in peer counseling with me and start recognizing all the possibilities you keep letting pass you by as you toil away on the cross training bike.🚴🏼‍♀️ 🚴🏽‍♀️🚴🏿‍♀️

DM me the word TRAINING to get started today.

For all the runners who did situps on Christmas as children (and are now paying the price)– this is for you! ❤️

While a large swath of the population gears up for New Year’s resolutions – the teachings of the winter solstice offers us an alternative with the potential for deep healing and fast running.

People around the world have honored the pattern of the sun and the rhythm of nature as evidenced by monuments dating back to 5000 BC that align perfectly with the summer and winter solstice.

They knew the importance of aligning with the flow of the seasons for survival, energy, and sustenance.

Today, our survival does not depend on aligning with the season so much, yet our disconnection from the natural flow of nature, which also mimics the natural flow of our bodies, has caused havoc in our relationship with food and running performance.

Peaking and periodization are essential for racing fast, and the history of the winter solstice offers us guidance and a map of what this looks like in practice.

Eating disorders, injuries, and running plateaus are all symptoms of a deeper disconnection from your body. (not a lack of willpower or strength)

While connecting with your body, when you have overridden it signals for so long, can be quite challenging, the winter solstice can offer you an entry point to the natural flows of nature and your body at a safer distance.

Join me on New Year’s Eve day, Tuesday, December 31, at 4:00 PM PST for an Instagram live stream discussing what the winter solstice teaches us about running fast and healing the ravaging effects of an eating disorder.

Please bring your questions related to running, eating disorders, and the flows of nature and your body.

See you there!

Why settle for less? 🤷🏻‍♀️

This is the new standard! 🤸🏿‍♀️🤸🏾‍♀️🤸🏼‍♀️

Why settle for folks who just want you to check off recovery boxes without recognizing and celebrating your brilliance and ingenuity right now?

I know you’re really good at checking boxes and doing what you’re told.

But that’s just more of the same.

Doing things to appease outside eyes in hopes that you will finally be seen for who you are.

Controlling your food and pushing your body to the max so the world will see that you’re worthy.

What you really need Is someone who’s genuinely excited about you right now, even if you never changed a thing.

Someone who asks you tough questions while simultaneously doing metaphorical split jumps in jubilation that she gets to work with you.

Enough time with a peer counselor like this, and you start to internalize the cheerleading.

It goes with you wherever you go.

Instead of your old unworthiness voices having the final say, someone new comes to town with a different option.

No more settling for lukewarm receptions, and a lifetime being obsessed with food and draining your energy.

You’ve raised the bar!

You’re not invincible…⤵️

Yes, I know… Last year you were invincible.🏆

PR’s were a common occurrence, and Long training blocks were effortless. 🚴🏿‍♀️🚴🏽‍♀️🚴🏻‍♀️

You worked hard. 😮‍💨

But working hard is nothing to you. It’s like brushing your teeth. 🪥

Your kryptonite is backing off & taking it easy. 🛌

And that’s a beautiful thing IF YOU CAN LEARN TO WORK WITH YOUR BODY’S TOLERANCE LEVELS. 🚨

Otherwise, lack of speed will just be the beginning.

⚠️This s**t gets deep real quick!!

I know because I’ve lived it as a competitive D1 distance Runner with an eating disorder myself, witnessing other distance runners disappear out of thin air, as well as studying the research.

But this doesn’t have to be your final say.

You have a lot of potential, and you know it. 🌟

You need someone who understands this and knows how important your sport is to you.

You need someone who understands your high drive and motivation to do whatever it takes to win.

To schedule a free 30 minute peer counseling consultation DM me the word POTENTIAL.
