i used to think exercise wasn’t “productive” if i wasn’t left feeling like i “pushed myself to my limits”. definitely something that stuck with me after being an athlete for most of my life😅

but, i slowly realized this made me loathe exercise. or, at the very least, felt like a chore.

so much of social media is “do this, not that”. what if we changed the narrative to: “do what fills YOUR cup and looks/ feels healthy (physically, mentally, socially, financially, etc) to YOU”.

my dog walks have been such a great form of movement for me during this season. hanging with dogs, enjoying the weather, light walking, and sometimes listening to a fun podcast.

abbey, can you show me intuitive eating in 5 pictures?🫐🥐☕️

1.craving a sweet pastry and fruit for breakfast
2.goes to nearby bakery and orders the blueberry pinwheel 🤤
3.first bite taking in all the flavors of the syrup, flakiness of the pastry, and the freshness of the blueberries
4.feeling so happy i ate this for breakfast and satisfed that craving
5.soul leaves my body because the food was so yummy and satisfying

intuitive eating has enriched my life in so many ways.

If you struggle with food guilt, you’re not alone! It can feel so difficult and frustrating. Here are 3 actionable tips I use with my clients to help you overcome those negative thoughts and enjoy your meals without guilt:

1️⃣ Avoid labeling foods as “forbidden” or “off-limits.” This can lead to feelings of deprivation and make you more likely to eat past a comfortable level of fullness later on. Instead, allow yourself have the foods you want and enjoy.

2️⃣ Practice self-compassion. If you do have a “slip-up” , it’s okay. There is no “right” or “wrong” way of eating. Treat yourself with kindness and remember that one meal or snack doesn’t define your overall health.

3️⃣ Seek support from loved ones or a professional. Talking to a friend, dietitian, or therapist can help you process your emotions and develop a healthier mindset around food.

Remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to overcoming food guilt. Be patient with yourself and focus on small, sustainable changes that work for you.

With time and practice, you can develop a positive relationship with food and enjoy your meals without guilt or shame. ❤️‍🩹
