Did you know that as a healthcare provider working with patients I have a long list of annual items I have to do to be in compliance with health and safety and education? 🤔
Today I checked off one of those items on the list: my annual respiratory fit test! ✅
Had to make sure my respirator is safe and appropriate to use when working with patients on airborne precautions (like COVID, tuberculosis, measles—yes we’re seeing more of this ugh—etc). This ensures safety for everyone! 😷🦠
I have to do this every year but this was the first time I’ve done it the old-school way with the hood! After donning my N95 I then placed this hood over my face. The examiner sprayed bitter tasting/smelling solution (safe, don’t worry) into the hood and I do various movements with my head/face/body. If the fit is correct, I shouldn’t be able to smell or taste the solution — which happened for me, so I pass! 👏
If I fail I have to use a CAPR/PAPR system which is a whole ordeal (iykyk) so I’m so glad I passed! 😮💨
On to the next item: my annual review! 👌
