We'd like to formally introduce our newest associate surgeon, Dr. Griffin Sonstegard, DDS! 😊

Dr. Sonstegard completed his undergraduate education at Saint Olaf College in Northfield, MN after which he attended dental school at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. He then completed his residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery within the United States Army at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. After residency, Dr. Sonstegard fulfilled his obligation to the military while stationed at Reynolds Army Health Clinic at Fort Sill, OK where he re-established full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery by developing partnerships between the local hospitals and the military community. During this time Dr. Sonstegard also served as the oral and maxillofacial surgery mentor in the Fort Sill Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency educating and guiding recent graduates in more advanced procedures.

After completion of his time with the United States Army Dr. Sonstegard and his family made the decision to enter into civilian life and return to the Pacific Northwest – joining the team at Seattle Jaw Surgery. Dr. Sonstegard carries a passion for corrective jaw surgery as well as enjoyment and expertise in the treatment of various dentoalveolar conditions, dental implant needs, and benign pathology.

When not working, Dr. Sonstegard enjoys spending his time with his wife and children foraging in the woods, paddling on the water, and exploring the beauty the Pacific Northwest has to offer!

Do you need to replace an entire row of teeth? In many cases our doctors at Seattle Jaw Surgery can replace an entire row of teeth in one surgical appointment. There are several ways to replace your teeth and each situation is different. Some options allow for a removable denture that is held more tightly in place by dental implants. Other options allow for a denture that is permanently fixed to the dental implants and can be removed for cleaning by a dental professional. Learning about the best option for your individual case starts with a consultation appointment with one of our doctors. Once a method for replacement of your teeth is established, we will obtain a CT scan of your dental arches and a digital impression of your teeth. This data is used to plan for and make your new dentures. After the planning phase you are ready for surgery. Often your teeth can be removed, implants placed, and a temporary set of dentures inserted all in the same appointment.

Do you have a missing tooth? Have you considered a dental implant? Seattle Jaw Surgery is here to help. Dental implants are an excellent way to replace missing teeth in many situations. Our surgeons will work with your restorative dentist to develop the best plan for replacing your tooth. Implant dentistry often prevents others from recognizing teeth as “false”. They also help to prevent the jawbone from disintegrating and remaining natural teeth from shifting. In certain situations, bone grafting is needed prior to implant placement. Total treatment time can be several months, but the results are usually well worth the time commitment! If you would like to talk to one of our surgeons about replacing your tooth call us at 206-207-1525.
