On World Autism Day (and each day), we recognize that every Autistic person is their own kind of amazing.

Some of us love patterns. Some of us love sounds. Some of us love quiet spaces, big ideas, or noticing details others might miss.

Some, like Carl's friend Lotta, see colors when they hear music. And some, like Carl, are sensory seekers who love strong smells.

There isn’t just one way to be Autistic. There are all kinds of kinds.

That’s something we celebrate every day at the Autism Society of America, and it’s something we love about Carl, Lotta, and their friends in Fuzzytown, too.

Happy Autism Acceptance Month! 💙

This month, especially, we celebrate the beauty of neurodiversity and the strength that comes from our differences. Every person brings something meaningful and unique to the world, which is something worth celebrating.

We have created a fun coloring sheet for you to enjoy at home with your family! You can print it out and get creative together, or stop by the Autism Center or Seattle Children's Alyssa Burnett Adult Life Center where copies will also be available.

As you color, we invite you to reflect on what makes you YOU!

What are your strengths? What brings you joy? What is your superpower?

Share with us in the comments, we would love to celebrate you!

A UW Bothell research team is developing Mystoria, an app designed to help individuals with autism and their families navigate everyday social situations. Led by Assistant Professor Annuska Zolyomi and supported by graduate and undergraduate researchers, the project builds on research conducted with families in Panama in collaboration with Autismo Panamá. MSCSSE student Kris Yu is helping build the app and will be submitting a simplified version to Apple's Swift Student Challenge.

Mystoria uses social stories, a therapeutic storytelling approach that helps individuals practice and prepare for experiences such as getting a haircut, traveling or navigating unfamiliar environments. The app integrates large language models to help generate personalized stories and includes accessibility features such as text to speech narration and playback controls.

The app is designed to support collaboration between caregivers and therapists. Users can create, share and modify social stories while maintaining a strong focus on privacy and accessibility. As development continues, the research team hopes Mystoria will eventually support multiple languages and platforms so that more families can benefit from the tool.

Through projects like Mystoria, UW Bothell students and faculty work together to design technology that supports communities and improves accessibility.
