As another holiday approaches many of us are looking forward to some delicious food. Gathering with loved ones and sharing a meal is a big part of how many of us celebrate. Sometimes this can lead to over indulgence and often some self recrimination the next day. For this holiday I would like to challenge you to give yourself permission to enjoy, with no regrets. Eat your favorite foods, as much as you want, just really savor them. Each bite, or sip is wonderful, and so much more so if you slow down and pay close attention, to just how good it really is. Chances are when you do this you will notice when you are full, and be more satisfied by what you ate. Even if you eat the same amount as you did last year, your body will have an easier time digesting it, so you will sleep better, and the next day it will be easier to follow up with the second step of this challenge, no regrets. You gave yourself permission so there is no reason to be upset with yourself. Yesterday was fun, and today is a new day!

This morning my studies spoke of the importance of eating slowly and mindfully. How this one thing can improve health as much if not more than changing what we eat. In these challenging times I believe this habit is important for our minds. Here is to taking time to breathe and slow down at a meal today, hopefully with someone we appreciate. Do One Small Thing
It’s easy to think that the only way to make real meaningful change you have to completely overhaul how you eat. It makes sense because it gets results very quickly. We eat only salad for a week, or completely eliminate all carbs from our diet. The problem is that this kind of change is very hard to sustain. To make changes we stick with for life, make them small, easy and repeatable. One great idea is, get a water bottle and drink water from it, all day long. It’s amazing how it can help with sugar cravings, snacking, or just replacing a few caloric beverages.

Most of us know a lot of great ways to take care of our health, but often find it difficult to consistently implement those ideas. There are a lot of good reasons for this, stress, habits, and environment can all play a powerful role in the choices we make every day. That is why a good nutritional coach can help us make the small meaningful changes every day that add up to reaching our desired goals.
