Vitamin D is crucial for supporting children’s bone health and immune systems—especially during the cold winter months! The AAP recommends that all children begin receiving vitamin D supplements shortly after birth. Babies younger than 12 months of age should receive 400 IU of vitamin D each day, and toddlers and older children should receive 600 IU. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4inQanF

On January 5, 2026, the Acting Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention signed a decision memorandum to revise the Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedule and significantly reduce the number of vaccinations routinely recommended for all U.S. children. This decision did not follow established procedure for vaccine policy recommendations and threatens an increase in vaccine-preventable diseases in children nationwide. Children getting sick from the diseases prevented by recommended immunizations leads to missed school for children, missed work for parents, and even hospitalization and death in some children.

RSV immunization is recommended for all infants under the age of 8 months. RSV season is still here and generally runs through March. So if your baby was born this past spring or summer, talk with your pediatrician about getting the RSV immunization as soon as possible to maximize protection this season. You can also use this chart to help you figure out the best time for your baby to get the immunization based on their birth month. Your pediatrician can help you confirm the timing that is right for your baby and your community. Learn more about RSV at https://bit.ly/46Q4uSH

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently added misleading claims to its autism webpage. We want to be clear: decades of high-quality, large-scale studies show that vaccines do not cause autism. "Parents deserve peace of mind. Decades of rigorous research have shown vaccines do not cause autism," said Dr. Susan Kressly, president of the American Academy of Pediatrics. "Vaccines are one of the safest and most effective ways to protect children’s health and help them thrive."

The American Academy of Pediatrics stands with members of the autism community who have asked for support in stopping this rumor from spreading any further. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4rbx4FX

The sick guy is a staple of holiday travel. Protect yourself with a mask while traveling and consider getting updated flu and COVID vaccines before you go. Even if vaccination can't prevent infection 100% of the time, it can reduce the length and severity of illness if you do get sick. And getting updated COVID vaccine also reduces the risk of long COVID! kingcounty.gov/FindaClinic
