Please join us in congratulating Dr. Cynthia Ruggeiro, of Market Optical at Pike Place Market in Seattle, as the recipient of the OPW 2021 Shining Star Award. Dr. Ruggeiro was recognized for her leadership as chair of the association’s COVID Task Force, providing critical information with the profession about the virus, including details on how to practice safely and how to re-open offices. She was also an advocate for optometry at the state level and answered vital questions via the OPW COVID Digest.

We are so grateful for her hard work and dedication to the profession!

Masking up at your optometrist's office helps keep everyone safer, especially our younger unvaccinated patients and those with compromised immune systems.

Please remember that EVERYONE, regardless of vaccination status, must continue to wear a mask in some places like hospitals, medical offices, and long-term care facilities.

Recent research finds that blue-blocking lenses did not alter signs or symptoms of eye strain with computer use relative to standard clear lenses. Eyestrain from many hours on a computer is real and I often discovery the cause to be uncorrected refractive error, focusing or eye alignment issues, poor ergonomics or even dry eye. A comprehensive eye exam can help figure out the cause.

To investigate if blue-blocking lenses are effective in reducing the ocular signs and symptoms of eye strain associated with computer use.

Glad to be advocating for optometrists in WA state.

The state’s Dental Quality Assurance Commission on Jan. 7 finalized guidance allowing dentists to perform COVID-19 vaccinations. Optometrists want to vaccinate people, too.
