Ursula the wellness witch 🫚🍄‍🟫🌿✨ I’m at one of those junctions in life where the veil parts to let you peek back on your destined path & the checkpoints along the way: a song in Spanish Abuelas and Abuelos sang to me growing up, “¿Ursula que estas haciendo en la cocina?”; collecting flowers and berries and knick knacks to draw flavors and scents into solution as childhood entertainment; a lifelong fascination with alchemy and earth medicines; ending up at Bastyr University for a B.S. in Nutrition & Culinary Arts + bonus astrology clues revealed along the way ♐️ I shouldn’t be surprised to be here and yet, life is fun like that and surprises us anyway! My herbal medicine making workshops begin in April & I’m so excited to bring others in for kitchen alchemy play time ☺️💕

All in due time, as they say, and I can’t think of a better time to help put health power back into people’s hands than now— when our health care systems and institutional guidance have eroded beyond belief. What I know for sure is that community capital came long before monetary capital, & that the yield of the former never depreciates, while that of the latter evaporates in the market of community & higher consciousness. While monetary capital is material, & we use material to build in the gross plane of the physical world, those material gains have lasting value ONLY when the currency is exchanged into the subtle plane of human welfare. Otherwise, they meet the same fate as all other material of the physical plane. Community capital came first, & community capital will survive long after the volatile markets built from foundations of greed, fear, self-service, & malice crumble-- because the foundation of the former is made of an indomitable material, whereas the foundation of the latter is feeble & rotten at its core. Milk & honey is the nourishment of one, while the other is forever malnourished by a feast of milk-and-water.

When we talk about capital, we are almost always talking about finances, debt, equity, etc. Rarely--much too rarely-- do we ever talk about capital of the human, social, intellectual, or spiritual variety-- and we are glaringly none the richer for it.

I couldn't ever put a price on the wealth of spiritual capital that the PNW has granted me, and I couldn't transfer the experience to you if you've never had it. What I can say is that in the midst of a world suffering from impoverishment of all types of capital-- most painfully obvious of the spiritual kind-- I owe much of the richness I've felt in the last 7 years of my life to the majesty of this is breathtaking corner of Creation (ofc, I also owe much of it to the furry beast by my side, my other PNW boon 🥰). I would be much more spiritually malnourished without the blessing of having access to this special land.

It's magical & medicinal potency-- and the generations of native stewardship that have nurtured its existence and protected its Spirit-- have spared me from feeling far too impoverished to pour into the work of collective healing and higher consciousness that I dedicate my life to through Vessoul Wellness and beyond 💗

✨The Vessoul Wellness origin story: Vessoul Wellness took root because of my personal wellness awakening, which began with yoga but was first planted observing my father's attempt to manage his type II diabetes diagnosis. When I began practicing yoga, I had little awareness of my relationship to food nor of what comprised a healthy diet-- though I'd grown up competing as an athlete my entire life into the collegiate level. The greatest gift yoga rewards one with is raised awareness in general; one of the first areas of my life I became aware of was what foods improved or detracted from feeling bright, energized, limber-- all boons from yoga. In short, I was experiencing the power of holistic health awareness. Since then, it has become my life's mission to be a vessel of holistic health knowledge. I want to help others experience what I experienced, because empowering others to feel self-agency in their own pursuit of thriving health is the most impactful legacy I can offer the collective well-being of the world.

The reason teaching yoga is the silver bullet in my arsenal of holistic health modalities is because it uses the gross (body, breath) to access the subtle (consciousness). It's not some lofty, inaccessible approach. With the body you have right now, and the breath you've had all your life, you can learn to influence the state of your mind and thus overall health. On avg, we are SO mentally overworked & SO physically underworked, it doesn't make sense to try to fight mind vs. mind. We are a part of the animal kingdom, after all-- very much physical creatures. Instead, yoga uses a physical approach to transform the heavy, inert, energy of our bodies while simultaneously clearing the mind of overstimulation and cloudy perception. Consciousness that is clear and calm empowers you to act & react towards ALL interactions from the seat of centered awareness. 👁 🧠 ⚡️

I will always remember the sweetness in the air surrounding him, so palpable. I'd like to believe (choosing to believe) that because energy cannot be destroyed, the light he carried is now shattered into countless pieces scattered around the globe within each of us who carry the practice forth. A light so bright-- the hard-earned gift that Ashtanga produces-- so desperately needed the world over right now. May the practice & the legacy help us continue shining more brightly for the sake of our collective well-being 🕊 Forever grateful to have inherited this practice from the river of teachers that flowed thru him from his grandfather & beyond; I owe so much of my capacity to shine amidst turmoil & turbulence to it 🪔
