At Pike Place Dental, we are committed to helping patients achieve the oral health they desire. One of our most important roles is to be knowledgeable dental health educators; we make patients aware of the best modern dentistry so they can make educated choices. Our hope is that patients will make an educated choices about dental health, so that their overall health and quality of life will be improved. People who have missing or uncomfortable teeth tend to make different food choices than those with comfortable, fully-functioning dentition. They tend to eat softer foods that are easier to chew and are lower in fiber and roughage. It is well-documented that people with adequate fiber in their diet have reduced risk for colon cancer. A diet high in simple carbohydrates, which tend to be easier to eat, increases risk for diabetes and heart disease. Recent studies have also shown that people with periodontal disease have an increased risk for heart disease, heart attack or stroke. Periodontal disease has also been linked with mature-onset diabetes, low-birth-weight newborns and rheumatoid arthritis. Also, studies have shown that people who floss and brush twice a day have a 40 percent less chance of a cardiovascular event than people who only brush and floss once daily. In addition, some case studies seem to indicate that the presence of mercury-silver fillings increases chances of experiencing a myriad of health concerns. Preventative dentistry is always better than restorative dentistry. Our goal is to provide exemplary dental care in a spirit of tender loving kindness. Pike Place Dental uses techniques and procedures to minimize our impact on the environment. We “reduce, reuse and recycle,” and do not use toxic materials, like mercury-silver fillings, that contaminate our water supply. To “walk lightly on the earth” is a top priority. You can rest assured that we follow the strictest guidelines set forth by State and Federal Agencies for disease control to ensure the protection of every patient and to prevent the spread of disease.

Governor Inslee announced new restrictions on social gatherings and other activities for the next four weeks. The Washington State Dental Association (WSDA) has received direct confirmation from the Governor’s Office that the restrictions announced November 15th do NOT place any new limits on dental care or health care delivery more broadly.
Pike Place Dental is open to patients for routine and restorative dental care. Dear Patients,

The impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) on our community continues to change rapidly, so we are reaching out to let you know the most recent updates as it pertains to our patients. Pike Place Dental is committed to staying up to date on the latest information, protocols and guidelines in order to protect the well-being of our patients, staff, and community.

As of today, the American Dental Association announced that they strongly recommend that dental practices voluntarily suspend non-essential or non-urgent dental care for a temporary period.

We believe that it is our duty to our patients and the broader community that we follow this recommendation. As such, we have decided to voluntarily cease all non-urgent dental treatment immediately. This includes routine dental cleanings, check-ups, and restorative dental treatment for patients who are not in pain or at risk of developing pain.

We will continue to be available for emergency care and urgent treatment. This will include patients who have symptoms of pain, swelling, sensitivity, etc. This will also include any patients that we have deemed to be at high risk for developing such symptoms if their dental treatment is not performed within the next few weeks.

We will be calling all patients who are currently scheduled for appointments to discuss if their appointments will need to be rescheduled. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding during this difficult time, as the situation will likely continue to change.

Please read below for standard precautions and resources about COVID-19. Your health is important to us, and we believe the path to fantastic health is paved by fantastic education.

If you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home, rest and take care yourself. If you are not having symptoms, rest assured we are continuing to use infection control universal precautions. Due to these protocols in place you can be assured you are safe to continue your dental care. We take care of our patients under standard guidelines for cross contamination.
