Women are the planners, the schedulers, the think-aheaders in most cases.

But there are some aspects of growing older in which, statistically, women are more in the dark - and that is regarding Social Security.

This week on the podcast, Jill spoke with Eric Blake of Blake Wealth Management about this topic. You can read more about it on SubStack or you can watch the episode on YouTube.

This week we shared a lot about lessons learned when Jill's husband, Marc, underwent emergency brain surgery - the worries flooding her brain, the feelings of being alone, the fear.

The lessons learned through that process have served Jill well through the years. And now, in a different chapter of life, she's finding that she's putting those skills to work as the out-of-town sibling and daughter.

If you're dealing with aging parents and you aren't local, this one's for you. As you start to plan this week, plan ahead for the kind of future emergencies you can't start planning in the moment when they happen.

On division of labor, showing up from a distance, and the conversation nobody wants to have.

Yes, it’s hard. Yes, you want to go just go in your shell and deal with it. But what Jill learned 11 years ago as her husband was undergoing emergency brain surgery, was to lean on those who love you. Accept their help. Let them clean out your fridge, drive you to the hospital, feed your dog. Let them in and in turn, be there for them when you know they don’t want to accept YOUR help, but they have to anyway.

Life is about lessons learned. And some lessons have to be learned even if you’re kicking and screaming through them.

In that moment, with your friends and family surrounding you, your whole future ahead, do you REALLY think about it? Do you REALLY consider what “in sickness and in health” means? If Jill’s being really honest, she’d probably admit she’s not sure she did. But 11 years ago today, she waited in the hospital waiting room as her husband had emergency brain surgery. This week, she’s sharing what those moments were like, in honor of her husband, their marriage and in hopes that it helps someone else going through something.

Bottomline: you can do this. You’ll get through it. Enlist the right friends. Be up front about what you need and what you don’t need. Take quiet time when you need it, allow yourself to laugh at any moment that feels funny, and love. Just love.

"Life doesn't give you a heads up before it turns sideways."

Eleven years ago this week, Jill's life was suddenly and shockingly altered when her husband, Marc, underwent a terrifying medical emergency. This week we are celebrating all they've been through, together, and taking a moment to share what mattered and how they both got through it.

If you're going through something traumatic right now, we hope this is helpful. Reach out if you need support.

This week is Marc week.

It’s a moment to remember that 11 years ago things in the Beck family got really scary. Jill gets vulnerable with what happened to her husband, Marc, how they got through it and hopes that by sharing this story, it helps someone else going through any kind of trauma.

We can get through things, but sometimes it’s good to know we aren’t alone in it. Comment with your best wishes for Marc now that he’s 11 years past this trauma!

"Around 50, something starts to shift. The tolerance for spending energy on things that don’t matter, on people who aren’t worth it, on rooms where you have to make yourself smaller - it goes to zero."

Strategize Sundays is always a thing for us. This Sunday, Jill is focused on strategizing life as a person with aging parents. This isn't something we focus on as a weekly task but it's sort of all over the place, everyday, up in the air, out in front, however it fits into the calendar.

She wrote this piece a few years ago, but it still holds true and each year the moments to treasure become a little more clear, and the worries become a little more heightened. We know we're not alone on this one.

So as you strategize for your upcoming week, month, year, trip, holiday, or any kind of plan, we hope this is useful. More to come on this topic.

This is the season when a lot of us are on the go. Whether for a spring conference for your job or your kids’ spring break, getting off your routine doesn’t have to derail your plans for your health.

This client is focused on how to stay on track for her own goals, and I’m happy to be able to coach her by text and support her along the way. Sometimes we just need someone else to come up with the ideas.

There’s a time to be serious and a time to be foolish. And sometimes, all you can do is look forward to and get to the next step. Today, April Fools Day, doesn’t have to be about planning the greatest prank. Sometimes you just need to find the laughter, the fun, and whatever will keep you propelling forward.
