Peony Peony is an acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine practice owned and founded by Paige Barnes in Seattle.

The Latin name “Paeonia,” derives from the name “Paeon.” Paeon was a Greek disciple of Asclepus, the god of medicine. In Traditional Chinese medicine, peony is a foundational herb commonly used to support women’s health and injury due to trauma. Ancient Chinese poets depict peonies as a symbol of honor, abundance, love, affection and feminine beauty.

🍽️ 🔥 Warm Breakfast, Warm Body, Nourished Blood

This is my second share of a warm breakfast because starting the day with cooked, warming foods is essential for a healthy, flowing digestive system.

Today’s breakfast is with red quinoa — a complete protein — that nourishes the blood. I added eggs, greens, avocado, and a squeeze of lemon to make a meal that supports energy, focus, digestion, and metabolism. Now I’m off into the grounded and ready.

✨ Start your morning warm. Your digestive fire — and your Blood — will thank you.

Want steady energy from breakfast? 🍳 🥕

In Chinese medicine, mornings are when your digestive fire is strongest. Warm, cooked foods support digestion and absorption, helping your body turn food into lasting energy. Cold breakfasts can slow digestion and leave you feeling tired or depleted later on.
Roasted root vegetables are especially nourishing because they help build and support Blood. Their warmth and natural sweetness ground the body, support circulation, and create steady energy without crashes.
A warm breakfast like this — roots, eggs, and whole grains — is a simple way to feel more rooted, nourished, and supported all day long.
✨ Save for busy mornings

Have you ever noticed heat rising while the rest of your body feels cold or depleted? 🔥

Try this cinnamon tea recipe — swipe to the end of the carousel to find it.

First, take a sip of cinnamon tea.
Hold it in your mouth, close your eyes, and then swallow. Continue to sip as you sense its warmth moving through you.

Cinnamon bark returns our fire to its source — the kidneys.

In Chinese medicine, when fire becomes detached from its source, it rises upward, creating symptoms like anxiety, insomnia, hot flashes, or heat in the head, while the lower body feels cool, with signs such as low back soreness or poor digestion.

This is one of cinnamon’s healing gifts — guiding warmth back home.

✨ Stay tuned — soon I’ll be sharing my winter ritual cards, including a cinnamon bark foot soak meditation to support this return to source.

Trouble sleeping? Hot flashes, anxiety, or that wired-but-tired feeling?

Tonight I share with you a tea to help return fire to its source 🔥

When fire isn’t rooted where it belongs, heat can scatter and rise—showing up as insomnia, hot flashes, restlessness, or anxiety.

✨ Cinnamon bark gently returns fire to its source—anchoring warmth back into the pelvis and lower body, rather than letting it flare upward.

✨ Goji berries nourish your essence—the cooling, replenishing aspect of the Kidneys that holds your original light, your deep reserves, your cosmic blueprint.

This is the kind of care that feels both ancient and very practical… and also totally compatible with pajamas and bedtime.

Tonight, I’m drinking this tea to settle my fire and tend my essence before sleep.

If this way of caring for yourself speaks to you, I’d love to invite you into my upcoming winter ritual series Unshakable Determination.

Together we’ll explore meditation, acupressure, Chinese herbal therapy, and restorative breathing practices to return fire to its source and support the deep nourishment of essence.

Looking for an easy, nourishing treat?
Try these Sesame & Walnut Essence Bites 🖤🌰

Black sesame (Hei Zhi Ma) and walnuts (Hu Tao Ren) nourish the Kidneys, support jing (essence), and build blood in Chinese Medicine. They’re especially loved for supporting fertility, libido, the low back and knees, and healthy hair. A little honey (Feng Mi) harmonizes the blend, moistens dryness, and supports digestion.

Ingredients
½ cup black sesame seeds (Hei Zhi Ma)
½ cup chopped walnuts (Hu Tao Ren)
1–2 tbsp honey (Feng Mi)

Directions
1. Toast sesame seeds in a wide skillet over medium heat, shaking the pan occasionally, until fragrant (3–5 minutes). Remove from the pan and let cool for at least 1 minute.
2. Add sesame seeds, walnuts, and honey to a food processor and blend.
3. Roll into ~¾-inch balls. If needed, add a little more honey so they hold together.

A simple, sweet way to tend your essence—pajamas highly encouraged 🤍
