DL-Phenylalanine (DLPA)

"In one study, 20 depressed patients took 200 mg of DLPA everyday. At the end of the 3-week study, 12 patients no longer had depression, and 4 patients experienced mild to moderate improvements in their mood (8).

This makes sense considering that researchers have found that people struggling with depression often have low levels of phenylalanine, and supplementation significantly elevates their mood (9).

In fact, one study found that DLPA is just as effective as standard antidepressants (but without side effects), and another found that people who don’t respond to common antidepressants often get significantly better when they take DLPA (10, 11).

And even if you take medication, research shows that combining DLPA with antidepressants leads to greater increases in mood than simply taking an antidepressant alone (12).

Yet unlike antidepressants, you can feel the effects of DLPA quickly (within a few hours) and in some cases, it can “terminate depression within 2 to 3 days” (13)."

Today I want to talk to you about one of the best amino acids that has really helped me manage feelings of depression, anxiety and trauma. I write about many different helpful nutrients and supplements , and I know it can be overwhelming.  So I want to dedicate this post to one amino

These are 4 brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) that regulate our mood and promote pleasure:

1. Endorphins - our natural pain relievers
2. Serotonin - natural antidepressant
3. GABA - natural relaxer
4. Catecholamines - natural energizer

When we are low in these, we compensate with food and substances that cause inflammation in the body.

Because some of us don't have enough of the brain chemicals that we should naturally be creating to make us feel emotionally well, we are literally starving to get them.

Should we feel ashamed of ourselves for needing emotional sustenance from food? No.. it happens to all of us. Instead we should feel hopeful about how easy it is to naturally replenish our brain chemicals.

I do this with amino acid therapy!

For example, you can stop your sugar cravings with a single amino acid supplement (L-glutamine). Because glutamine converts to glucose so fast, our brain can use it for energy when it is low on sugar.

Amino acid therapy is completely safe, non-addictive, and a very affordable way to boost neurotransmitter production.

💚A therapeutic dose 360-420mg of magnesium glycinate has been so effective at reducing my mother's leg cramps, helping her relax at night and lessening the ruminent thoughts. It's changed her life.💚

Magnesium is an essential mineral to the brain as a part of almost every part of the stress response, recovery, and repair. It's also responsible for supporting muscle and nerve function as well as energy production.

Over half of Americans are deficient in magnesium.. We are usually not getting enough from food sources so supplementation is important. Magnesium is best taken with calcium and vitamin D3 for optimal activation and absorption.

Splash of MCT oil
Sweeten with honey

Contains amino acids (theanine, glycine, phenylaline) needed for brain wellness and stimulating serotonin production.

Nutrient-dense foods continue to heal my body and mind. These are ongoing choices I make, as I know how easy it is to fall back into the spiraling vortex of depression when I am not eating well.

I have seen firsthand the powers of nutrition to change one's mental wellbeing for the better, and I absolutely love and desire to share this knowledge with you!

Seven foods with the most potential to prevent and promote recovery from depression: oysters, mussels, seafood, grass fed organ meats, leafy greens, peppers, and cruciferous vegetables

"The Antidepressant Food Score (AFS) is the first nutrient profiling system created to inform dietary recommendations for mental health.

This evidence-based approach is based on the density of 12 antidepressant nutrients: folate, iron, omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA), magnesium, potassium, selenium, thiamine, vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, and zinc."

Traditional fats include pasture-raised butter, lard, tallow, schmaltz, suet, duck fat ... as well as coconut oil, olive oil and sustainably produced red palm oil. Cod liver oil and skate liver oil, rather than fish oil is also recommended!

I am in control of the mental atmosphere I create. Thoughts can be changed and the positive thoughts I choose are helping me heal.

I am free to be new in this moment.

I release all negativity because it’s not who I am. I make way for love because that’s who I really am.

I am a friend to my body. I forgive my body and treat it with the same loving kindness I would like to receive.

No matter what has been or will be, my inner light can’t be extinguished.

I treat my discomfort and pain like I would an innocent child. I tend to my body with unconditional compassion and care.

I am doing everything I can to help my body be well as quickly as possible.

I choose thoughts that create a healthy atmosphere within and around me.

I am a willing participant in my own wellness plan.

Also bring into your eating: seaweeds, mushrooms, cat's claw tea or take it in tablet form, lemon balm tea, monolaurin, and grapefruit seed extract.
