๐๐ Think Twice Before Wearing Costume Contact Lenses This Halloween!
Costume or colored contact lenses might seem like a fun finishing touch, but wearing non-prescription costume lenses can put your vision at risk. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), these lenses can scratch your cornea, cause serious infections, or even lead to permanent vision loss.
Before you pick up those โone-size-fits-allโ lenses from a costume shop or online, read this important article from AAO on why contact lenses are medical devices and why skipping proper fitting or a prescription can be dangerous: https://www.aao.org/eye-health/halloween-cosplay-colorful-contacts-eye-safety
Tips to keep your eyes safe:
Only wear contact lenses that are prescribed to you by a licensed eye care professional
Buy lenses from retailers who require a prescription
Never share contacts with others
Follow all instructions for cleaning, storage, and wear
Stay spooky โ donโt sacrifice your eyesight!

Our awesome Mount Vernon staff had such a wonderful time at the Skagit County Senior Day at the Park in Burlington!
They enjoyed meeting community members, answering questions, and sharing helpful information about common eye conditions that can affect us as we age, like cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry eye. Events like these are such a great opportunity to connect, raise awareness, and remind everyone that healthy vision is an important part of healthy aging.
Weโre grateful to be part of such a vibrant community and look forward to continuing to support lifelong eye health here in Skagit County!
