Protea Wellness stands wuth indigenous peoples on this day, and every day.

Although the official American story of Thanksgiving has been sanitized and celebrated by many people in the United States for over 200 years, it is a day of mourning for many indigenous communities.

So, this upcoming Thursday, Protea Wellness encourages all of us to focus on indigenous-led history about the events behind the story, to shop at indigenous-owned businesses, and to donate to indigenous organizations like Real Rent Duwamish.

Every November 20th, the trans and trans ally communities dedicate this day to memorialize and remember the people killed by transphobic violence since November 20th of the last year.

Hate crimes against transgender, nonbinary, and other gender nonconforming communities is on the rise. Today and every day, we stand against this violent hate.

To all of our trans/NB/GNC employees,
clients, friends, family, and everyone in these communities all over the world, we’re sending our dedication to your safety.

Today is Indigenous Peoples' Day!

This is one of our favorite holidays. There are so many events! Even a quick Google search will provide information about so many different events to celebrate this important holiday.

Although we find it impossible to pick just one Indigenous Peoples' Day event to love, we're choosing to highlight Seattle's first:

Seattle finally recognized Indigenous Peoples' Day in 2014, and the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation hosted the city's first official Indigenous Peoples' Day celebration.

That initial celebration is now an annual event! The United Indians of All Tribes Foundation is hosting this annual celebration at the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center today.

This day of mourning was this week. How did you observe it?

We mourn the ongoing generational trauma caused by these horrific institutions.

To quote the National Indian Health Board: “Native children were forcibly removed from their homes and placed in these institutions, often hundreds of miles away from their communities. The schools’ stated goal was to assimilate Native children into Western culture – stripping them of their languages, cultural practices, family connections, and spiritual traditions. “
