great longevity advice, from one who knows...

On the Aegean island of Ikaria we found our fifth blue zone. Not only do people here reach age 100 at 3 times the rate we do in the U.S., dementia is virtually non existent. (About half of Americans over 85 suffer from dementia). Here we met this 93-year-old Greek Orthodox priest. His longevity advice:

Keep your feet warm,
Your head cool
Have a glass of wine with dinner
And leave the table before you’re full!

My colleague, Carrie Runde, ND and the Maryland Association of Naturopathic Physicians celebrate with overwhelming support by their House, Senate and now Governor Martin O’Malley as he signed a bill to enable naturopathic doctors in Maryland to become licensed to practice naturopathic medicine. Maryland becomes the 18th state to license naturopathic doctors. Passage of the law reflects the public’s growing confidence in naturopathic medicine as an effective form of medicine.

Ever wonder what's going on inside BIORC, Bastyr University's quiet little clinical research lab? Here's a peek:
* They're seeing an 80% survival rate in their stage-IV colon cancer patients, compared to the local norm of 15%.
** And they're seeing a 64% survival rate in their stage-IV lung cancer patients, compared to the local norm of 15%, and the national norm of just 3%.

Integrative oncology may extend the lives of patients with advanced cancers, according to ongoing research at the Bastyr Integrative Oncology Research Center (BIORC).
