The Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education® uses experiential learning, through sensations and perception, to awaken your self-awareness and open up choices about how you move, think, and feel. Instead of "fixing a problem", Feldenkrais looks at how you are doing something. By exploring a tiny piece of a movement, you can discover a curious and playful way of approaching the larger question of what is going on. Everyone has habits that get in their way, in movement or any other part of life. We spend too long at a computer and then walk away not knowing that our shoulders are still up around our ears. We hold our breath at times when taking a deep breath could work wonders. We get frustrated by difficult situations instead of taking a step back and becoming curious and asking, "What could I change?" Feldenkrais works to unstick those stuck places.

Today I had the pleasure of attending a continuing education workshop with Laura van Dernoot Lipsky of The Trauma Stewardship Institute. If you haven’t read her books yet, “Trauma Stewardship” and “Age of Overwhelm”, I highly recommend them.

I had already been thinking about doing some writing around the current political changes, and then I got a chance to sit down to write after the workshop and this is what came out. I’m a little nervous sending it out, probably because my writing for work is not usually overtly political, but I hope it’s helpful to you.

We all have our own ways of creating resistance when those in political leadership act only in self-service and hurt the people they’re supposed to be serving. Some of us march in protests. Some of us get trained in emergency medicine or law or get physically strong for when those protests go awry...

Time for a new blog post!

Chances are you’ve never looked at the soles of your shoes unless you needed to wipe dog p**p off them, but they can tell you so much about your walk and about when it’s time to buy new shoes! An out-of-town client who I’ll call C, and who I hadn’t seen in years, came in recently with recent...

New blog post!

Whether you work on a computer all day or you’re just on it for an hour or two sometimes, finding a set up that keeps you comfortable is so important and can feel so elusive. When you’re thinking about desk ergonomics, it’s really important to remember that computers (and especially laptops) w...

It's starting to smell like fall, and that brings with it my full-time practice anniversary! September 25th will mark two years! Thank you so much for your continued support and referrals. You are why my practice exists.

It's also time for me to raise my private session rates, though the low end of my sliding scale will not change. Starting October 1st, my new full rates will be:

1 session: $130
3 sessions: $375 ($125 each)
6 sessions: $720 ($120 each)

For those waiting for news on classes, you'll need to wait a little longer. I've been so busy with new clients this summer that I haven't gotten a chance to find my next class space yet. Thank you for your patience! In the meantime, you can find a calendar of local classes I can vouch for at www.feldenkraisteachersinseattle.com.

A new blog post on getting curious about ourselves and others.

We all have habits in everything we do. They’re an essential part of being human. They allow our brains to not think through every single thing we do all day long. They’re a survival mechanism. However, it’s important to question them now and then to make sure they’re serving us well, and ge...
