CIRS, also known as Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome, is a condition triggered by exposure to a toxin — usually mold. This can then trigger mast cells and MCAS symptoms, which is why we’re always asking questions about what environmental exposure you may have had that have led to this flare.

Many medical providers still don’t believe in CIRS, or think to look for mycotoxin illness from mold exposure. If you’re ready to work with providers who take your symptoms and your environmental triggers seriously, we’re here to help! You can book an appointment — in person or telehealth — at https://www.ariaintegrative.com/appointments/.

The short answer? Yes.

Leaving women out of research, combined with the other life experiences women typically go through in their 20s and 30s, has led to low back pain — the top symptom of ankylosing spondylitis — being misdiagnosed and attributed to other factors.

Dr. Bennett talks about how subsequent research has changed that, and how she’s watched the diagnosis rate differentials shrink over the last decade as more women have gotten accurate early diagnoses.

Brenda, are you one of Dr. Bennett’s students? 👀 In any case, the TL;DR is that seronegative inflammatory arthritis is an umbrella term that encompasses ALL seronegative arthritides, whereas seronegative RA applies specifically to rheumatoid arthritis with normal labs, which falls under that umbrella.

If you have more questions about seronegative arthritis or other autoimmune conditions, we’re happy to answer them at our next TikTok Live TODAY at 2 PM PT! We hope we’ll see you there!

You’ve seen us talk about how stress impacts autoimmune conditions, but what about gut health? When your system is in fight-or-flight mode, your gut secretes hormones that cause inflammation, histamine release, and leaky gut.

So this April for Stress Awareness Month, we’re encouraging you to find ways to lower your stress, bring down your cortisol, and let your body heal. And if you need support in doing that, Dr. Windsor and the rest of our team are here to help! You can book an appointment — in-person or virtual — at https://www.ariaintegrative.com/appointments/.

April 11-17 is Black Maternal Health Week! This campaign was launched 10 years ago to address and bring awareness to the high rates of maternal mortality and disparities faced by Black mothers in the US.

As Dr. Fariba discusses in this video, Black mothers are 2-3x more likely to die from pregnancy- and birth-related complications than their white peers, regardless of their individual health needs. This is not an individual issue, but rather a systemic failure that needs to be addressed by our healthcare providers and systems.

To learn more about Black Maternal Health Week and the challenges faced by Black mothers as they access reproductive healthcare, check out Black Mamas Matter Alliance at blkmaternalhealthweek.com.

How do you know if the mood changes you’re dealing with are perimenopause or just … stress from existing in this world? Labs aren’t always accurate, so we have to look at your symptoms!

Dr. Fariba and Dr. Bennett talk about what symptoms you might experience as you move into perimenopause, as well as tracking methods to explore if those symptoms are related to changes in cyclical hormones or other issues.

If you still have questions about perimenopause, menopause, and other women’s health issues, our team is here to help! You can make an appointment — in person or virtual — at ariaintegrative.com/appointments.

April 7 is World Health Day. It marks the founding of the World Health Organization, a global public health organization that directs global health emergencies, monitors health trends, and issues immunization guidance.

This year’s theme is “Together for Health: Stand with Science.” There’s a lot of health misinformation out there, especially on social media. Follow us for evidence-based information on autoimmune disease, chronic illness, women’s health, and more, and remember that we always encourage you to consult a licensed medical provider for questions about your healthcare 💙

Are you having trouble sleeping? Either you’re having trouble going to sleep, waking up at odd hours, or quieting your mind enough to get actual rest? That could be due to the hormonal changes in the early stages of perimenopause.

In this video, Dr. Fariba and Dr. Bennett talk through what those hormonal changes look like, how they change from month to month, and how they might be impacting your sleep.

If you’re ready for help navigating this major life transition, our team is here to help! You can book an appointment — in person or virtual — at https://www.ariaintegrative.com/appointments/.
