Fascinating research. The Kidney is the sea of marrow so this makes sense!

A groundbreaking study from Wuhan University is turning everything we thought we knew about Parkinson’s disease upside down. Researchers now believe the disease may not start in the brain at all, but in the kidneys.
The study found abnormal clusters of alpha-synuclein (α-Syn) proteins, the same ones heavily linked to Parkinson’s, inside the kidneys of affected patients. These proteins are known to trigger neurological damage when they build up in the brain. However, in animal experiments, healthy kidneys successfully cleared these proteins. When kidney function was impaired, the α-Syn proteins began to travel to the brain, setting the stage for Parkinson’s.
Shockingly, even people with chronic kidney disease but no neurological symptoms were found to have α-Syn buildup. This discovery suggests the kidneys might act as an early “reservoir” for toxic proteins, which could later spread through the bloodstream or nerves and affect the brain.
Though early and based on limited data, this research could completely change how we understand and treat Parkinson’s. It raises the possibility that monitoring and protecting kidney health might one day help prevent or delay the onset of this devastating condition.

Very informative. Thanks for sharing Bex Groebner. This pertains to Oregon practitioners, but we are facing the same challenges in Washington.

In that spirit, acupuncture remains the only approach that integrates all categories of points within a holistic framework aimed at restoring balance across the whole body–mind–spirit system. But there should be room for all forms of point-based care. If we can work together across disciplines a...

In the past decade, the awareness of trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and their impact on mental health, has increased enormously. In my own coursework for my Psychedelic-Assisted Therapies (PAT) certificate, for example, trauma-aware and trauma-informed approaches are heavily emphas...

East coast friends! Studying with Nigel Dawes has really deepened my herbal practice. I highly recommend if you are an herbalist.

We’re thrilled to welcome Nigel Dawes back to Kamwo for another special in-person meetup! 🎉 He last joined us in 2023, and we’re honored to host him again—this time with a slightly different format that includes more hands-on demonstrations focused on abdominal diagnosis and Kampo medicine.

If you’ve been thinking about attending Nigel’s upcoming 2-day in-depth workshop but aren’t sure if it’s the right fit, this meetup is a great opportunity to get a feel for his teaching style.

🗓️ The full workshop will be held at Pacific College of Health and Science in NYC on May 10–11, from 9 AM to 5 PM.
📩 To register, email dani@danilessnau.com.

🎟️ Space for the April 10 meetup is limited—reserve your spot now!

Congrats to Ana for completing her CMTPT with Josh Lerner. She has competed all three levels and is now a certified myopain trigger point therapist! Who has some stubborn pain or nasty trigger points causing referral pain? Ana’s got you. Trigger point therapy is another name for dry needling. It’s a manual technique inserting sterile thin needles into the muscle or connective tissue to release tight knots or “trigger points” that are causing pain. This then causes a muscle twitch response which is the spinal cortex, causing the muscles to then release increasing blood flood and movement to the area. Different from acupuncture treatment where we use channels, meridians and specific acupuncture points. This is highly effective treatment for pain when used in the right circumstances. Patients may be sore after treatment. If interested contact us today and we can answer any questions and get you set up for an appointment. You can also schedule online.

Feeling anxious? You are not alone. I’m receiving lots of request for that “anxiety point” One of my favorite acupuncture points, Yin Tang. Located at the glabella, at the midpoint between the medial extremities of the eyebrows. Third eye chakra. This point is great for calming a busy or anxious mind, alleviates pain and congestion in the head as well.

If you need some calm, you can apply acupressure to this point or gently stroke the point to get a similar effect.
