Addiction doesn’t just affect one person.
It strains families. It complicates care. It changes how love shows up.
For those of us who have lived through addiction—our own or someone else’s—we know how deeply it impacts family of origin, chosen family, and even our professional relationships.
Today, I want to invite a different way of thinking about love by drawing on bell hooks’ All About Love.
Not love as a feeling we fall into, but love as something we practice—intentionally, ethically, and with care.
When our earliest ideas about love were shaped by pain or survival, relearning how to love becomes part of healing.
If this resonates with you, you’re not alone. 💛
This conversation is for anyone navigating love, boundaries, and compassion in the midst of addiction.
Those of us who have experienced any one of the different forms of addiction, we know it strains familial bonds and complicates even the simplest acts of care. This includes not only family of origin but family of choice and our professional relationships.
