When two-thirds of the residents at a Hanukkah celebration aren't Jewish, you know something's different.

At Horizon House on Seattle's First Hill, inclusive senior living isn't a policy statement—it's latkes shared after lighting the menorah, secular humanists meeting on Sunday mornings, and everyone lining up for the Pride parade.

Linda Purdy, director of inner wellbeing and spirituality, sees it daily: residents of different faiths celebrating each other's traditions, not out of obligation, but genuine curiosity. Whether that means celebrating all eight nights of Hanukkah, gathering for the winter solstice, attending Christmas Eve service, or finding meaning through secular humanism, there's space to be fully yourself.

We had a fantastic day volunteering at the Low Income Housing Institute’s new Olympic Hills Village in Seattle, which opens next week! Our leadership team helped with finishing touches such as cleaning, hanging blinds, setting up mattresses, unboxing supplies, and sorting recycling. Huge thanks to Amanda, our site leader, for a fun kickoff complete with stretches. It was a pleasure to be part of this remarkable project, which features 45 tiny homes that will support our neighbors and strengthen our community!

We had a delightful time at our annual holiday party, hosted by residents to express gratitude to our incredible staff for all their hard work. The festivities included:

🎶 Live music from our resident music ensembles

🌟 A Fond Farewell and a Bright New Beginning! 🌟

November marked our last month in the West Wing before groundbreaking for the new West Tower begins, and in true Horizon House fashion, residents seized the chance to organize a get-together and have some fun. 🎉 We scrawled graffiti on the walls and explored the rooms for one last time, filling them with music, dancing, games, and plenty of laughter. It was a night to remember and one we’ll cherish as we step into this exciting new chapter! 🥂Special thanks to resident Lorraine for spearheading the event!

Horizon House is buzzing with creativity, turning our annual art studio sale into a lively event reminiscent of “Costco on a Saturday.” Residents and staff have become avid collectors, often drawn to the same artists’ work—such as Margaret’s textiles, Ron’s ceramics, or Ellen’s watercolors. ✨These stunning pieces are proudly showcased throughout the campus, brightening both living rooms and offices alike! This year’s proceeds will benefit our resident-run employee gift fund!💚

Join us in making a difference! In response to food insecurity caused by the cuts to SNAP benefits, Gini and Gloria from our Neighborhoods Committee are taking the lead to make an impact.
