Sometimes you need to LEAP before you LEARN! Here, a child tells her doll to “leap” over the obstacle course to get to the playhouse. This game is one creative way that Natalie targets accurate production of “L” in a play-based, child-led format. Hot tip for at home practice: it doesn’t always need to be in a sit down and drill situation. Come up with functional target words with your child’s SLP and use them in everyday play to activiate a toy, stuffy, or their parent!

When those different purposes are hard to access, communication can break down in ways that feel frustrating for everyone involved. That's where speech therapy comes in! Head to our website swansonspeechtherapy.com to learn more.

Articulation disorders occur when children struggle to produce specific speech sounds, affecting clarity and intelligibility.

Phonological disorders involve difficulties in recognizing and organizing sound patterns, making speech hard to understand despite correct articulation in isolation. An example of this is a child that is able to accurately say the sound “s” but says “tame” for “same”.

Early identification and targeted intervention can significantly improve your child’s communication skills.

And just to be clear: this isn’t about judging or doing things “perfectly.” Parenting in a world full of screens, AI, advice, and hot takes can feel like a full-time job you’re never quite getting right. We feel that, too!

Swipe through for our quick, supportive guide on what to look for: slower pacing, calmer visuals, positive strategies, and content that helps kids think and connect… not just zone out.
