- GRWM: Preparing for an 8-hour personal injury evaluation

Happy International Women’s Day from FAST.

Here’s a photo from Dr. Ashbaugh's and my professional version of a “meet cute.” Six weeks before our pre-doctoral residency/internship began in August 2010, we hatched plans to hike Mt. Rainier’s Spray Park trail. That trail eventually led us to FAST, and reveals one of the reasons we used a Spray Park topo map for fast-psych.com's website background.

We’re grateful for the fierce women who have blazed trails at the intersection of psychology and the legal system, and for our colleagues of every gender who walk alongside us in the shared pursuit of rigorous science and meaningful justice.

Today, we’re especially appreciative of the women who have mentored us, collaborated with us, and helped advance the field of forensic psychology.

We’re sending big gratitude to Dr. Megan Carter, ABPP, for a truly exceptional FAST Forward presentation on how to more effectively screen for FASDs in forensic evaluations.

The research on prevalence within certain forensic populations was eye-opening, *especially* given how little formal training many psychologists receive in identifying these conditions!

Dr. Carter’s talk prompted meaningful reflection on past evaluations and reinforced the importance of knowing what red flags to look for and when to consult an expert. We’re deeply grateful that she shared her invaluable time and expertise.

Today, many communities across the U.S. are engaging in a nationwide general strike and series of protests to demand accountability in response to recent federal immigration enforcement actions and violence, particularly in Minnesota.

In the interest of due process for vulnerable populations, FAST is open and continuing our work today. At the same time, we stand in solidarity with everyone who, understandably, is experiencing pain, fear, and anger. This is an issue of core values -- human decency, safety, justice, dignity, and how we care for one another -- not a matter of political affiliation.

FAST applauds everyone taking steps to promote positive change, challenge harmful practices, and improve systems from within. Together, we can ensure accountability, dignity, and humane treatment within the systems that touch our lives.

Seattle, WA — An unprecedented number of requests to work with Dr. Jolene Simpson has led FAST to launch feasibility planning for a strategic cloning initiative.

The proposal aims to preserve stellar, evidence-driven services while increasing access to the most-requested evaluator on our team.
