A common saying, "Eat more from the earth and less from a box," encourages people to focus on consuming whole, unprocessed foods. Processed foods, which are often packaged in boxes, can be detrimental to health due to their high-calorie content, unhealthy fats, sodium, and added sugars. This can lead to weight gain, chronic disease, and other health problems. Conversely, whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other nutrients that promote optimal health and well-being.

To consciously consume more of what the earth naturally provides, try adding more whole, unprocessed foods to your diet. Here are some examples of the earth's offerings:

Fruits: Berries, apples, oranges, kiwis, and bananas are all delicious and nutrient-dense fruits that can be enjoyed on their own or incorporated into smoothies, salads, or oatmeal.

Vegetables: Broccoli, spinach, kale, carrots, and sweet potatoes are just a few of the many vegetables that provide a variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support optimal health.

Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, cashews, chia seeds, and flaxseeds are all great sources of healthy fats, fiber, and protein.

Whole grains: Quinoa, brown rice, oats, and barley are all examples of whole grains that provide fiber, protein, and other essential nutrients.

By incorporating more of these whole, unprocessed foods into your diet, you can optimize your health and wellness while reducing the risk of chronic disease. The next time you consider reaching for a boxed meal, consider choosing something directly from the earth instead.

Comment below with your favorite of the earth’s offerings!

While acupuncture can be incredibly beneficial, it's essential to understand that the treatment results can depend on how well you take care of your body before and after the session. Here are some tips for properly caring for your body before and after an acupuncture session to help you yield the maximum results of acupuncture:

Stay hydrated: Before and after an acupuncture session, drinking plenty of water is important. This will help to flush toxins out of your body and improve the effectiveness of the treatment.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol: Caffeine and alcohol can interfere with the effectiveness of acupuncture, so it's best to avoid these substances for a few hours before and after your session.

Eat a light meal: Eating a light meal before your acupuncture session can help to prevent dizziness or nausea during the treatment. After the session, eating a healthy meal rich in nutrients is best to help your body heal.

Wear comfortable clothing: It's important to wear loose, comfortable clothing to your acupuncture session. This will help ensure you are relaxed and comfortable during the treatment.

Take it easy: After your acupuncture session, it's important to avoid strenuous activity and to take it easy. This will help your body to recover and heal properly.

Follow any additional instructions from your acupuncturist: Your acupuncturist may provide further instructions for caring for your body before and after the session.

Let us know if you have tried acupuncture! What were your results?

At GoodMed, we believe that to restore your health truly, we must identify and address the root cause of your health issues. This requires digging deeper to uncover what's happening beneath the surface. Our team is dedicated to investigating and understanding the underlying causes of your health concerns.

Once we clearly understand what's causing your health issues, we develop a comprehensive and holistic treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. The latest research backs our treatment plans and may involve the use of supplements or other interventions. However, before prescribing anything, we carefully evaluate the potential benefits and risks to ensure that it will help you achieve better health.

We often rely on thorough testing to get a complete picture of your health. This allows us to gather important data and identify any underlying imbalances or deficiencies contributing to your symptoms. If you're someone who experiences headaches or migraines at regular intervals throughout the month, it's important to know that this could be a sign of cyclic headaches, which are often induced by changes in hormone levels.

These headaches are caused by the velocity of change in hormones, which can dramatically drop levels. This can impact neurotransmitter levels in the brain, leading to inflammation and dysregulation of the brain-gut-hormone axis.

One potential solution to addressing these cyclic headaches is to treat the gut. Studies have shown that improving gut health can be just as impactful as addressing changes in hormone status.
If you're dealing with cyclic headaches, it's important to seek the help of a healthcare provider who can help you identify the underlying causes and develop an effective treatment plan.

Addressing the root causes of your headaches and taking a comprehensive approach to your health and well-being can reduce your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

Thyroid conditions, including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and thyroid cancer, are common. For example, up to 7% of the U.S. population has hypothyroidism, a condition in which your thyroid doesn’t produce enough thyroid hormones.

Research shows that dietary interventions, including supplements, may help treat certain thyroid diseases. However, certain supplements may do more harm than good regarding thyroid health.

Although some of these products are harmless, certain thyroid supplements may have negative side effects and even harm your thyroid. Before addressing why thyroid-specific supplements may not be the best choice for everyone, it’s important to explain what nutrients the thyroid needs for optimal functioning.

Here are some of the most important nutrients for thyroid health:

- Selenium: A mineral needed for thyroid hormone production, it helps protect the thyroid from damage caused by oxidative stress. The thyroid contains high amounts of selenium, and a deficiency can lead to thyroid dysfunction.
- Iodine: Iodine is critical for thyroid function. In fact, currently, the only known role of iodine is to support thyroid hormone production. Triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) are thyroid hormones that contain iodine. Iodine deficiency causes thyroid disease.
- Zinc: The mineral zinc is required for thyroid hormone production. An optimal concentration of zinc is needed for healthy levels of T3, T4, and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
- Iron: The thyroid needs iron to convert T4 into T3, the active form of thyroid hormone. Iron deficiency is associated with thyroid dysfunction.

Other nutrients, including B vitamins and vitamins A and E, are also needed for optimal thyroid function. Being deficient in one or more nutrients can negatively affect thyroid health and increase your risk of thyroid disease.
