On National Caregivers Day, we’re celebrating the people who lift others up.

When Community Health Worker, Kirsten Z., visited Mona, a 84‑year‑old retired Providence oncology nurse, the referral sounded simple: help sort through mail.📬

Mona was losing her vision, grieving the loss of her longtime companion and mourning the idea that one day soon, she wouldn’t be able to watch her beloved Gonzaga Bulldogs play basketball.🏀

Week after week, as Kirsten helped with bills and letters, a friendship formed. Mona shared stories from her years caring for patients, and the two bonded over their Providence roots.

Then Mona said something that stayed with Kirsten: “This time next year, I won’t be able to watch the Bulldogs on TV.” Kirsten knew she had to do something.

Thanks to her efforts, Kirsten surprised Mona with tickets to both the men’s and women’s Gonzaga basketball games — delivered personally by a former Gonzaga star. She even made sure Mona had a new hoodie and tee shirt so that she could cheer in style.

Mona’s reaction said everything: “I spent my career caring for others at Providence. To feel that same care coming back to me now… it means more than I can say.”

Happy to all who make moments like this possible. 💙

Shavonne’s decision to spend $250 on a genetic test for a persistent skin condition saved her life. The test revealed she was at high risk for several cancers. That knowledge led to early screening and ultimately caught invasive breast cancer before it had a chance to spread.

Now she’s on a mission to make lifesaving genetic testing accessible for everyone. 💞

Shoutout to the amazing students in the West Anchorage High School Arts Club!

These talented students made Grief Hearts for patient families at Providence Alaska Medical Center, a heartfelt way to show that love and connection live on. 🧡

Each Grief Heart is split in two: one piece stays with the patient, the other with the bereaved, symbolizing “you’ll always carry a piece of their heart.”

From custom 3D-printed cutters to thoughtful design iterations, these students poured care and creativity into every detail. 💡👏

Please join us in giving them a HUGE for bringing comfort and hope to families during difficult times. 💖

Providence Swedish cardiologist Neil Siecke, M.D., was working out when pickleballer Gary Dangleis went into cardiac arrest on the court. Dr. Siecke jumped into fast action with CPR while an off-duty firefighter grabbed an AED. One shock brought Gary’s heartbeat back before paramedics arrived.

Gary is now recovering, and the gym has added visible AEDs and free CPR training. Thank you to Dr. Siecke for bringing the heart and the hustle. Our community is lucky to have you. ❤️

Heart disease doesn’t have just one cause—but it does have risk factors.

High blood pressure, obesity and diabetes can all increase your risk. Some factors are written in your genes, but many are shaped by daily habits—and that’s where real change happens.

The good news?

Positive lifestyle choices and regular check-ins with your primary care provider can reduce, or even eliminate certain risks. Your doctor can help track your health and guide you on when it’s time to see a cardiologist. 💖

❤️ Five weeks after her life-saving heart transplant at Providence Heart Institute, Windy Manzardo took a simple walk around the block — a moment that meant everything.

For years, Windy battled unexplained palpitations, a terrifying episode of rapid, chaotic heart rhythms that triggered her defibrillator 18 times and complications that even took her off the transplant list. Still, she never gave up hope — or love for her family, her caregivers and the life she wasn’t done living.

Then one Sunday in church, the call came. A matching heart — one she feared might never come — was finally waiting.

Led by Dr. Cristy Smith, the Providence transplant team performed what Windy calls a “picture-perfect” surgery. Now she’s healing at home, growing stronger each day, and dreaming of cheering on her son, MLB player Kyle Manzardo, from the stands again.

This , we honor stories like Windy’s — stories of resilience, expert care, and the love that keeps us fighting.

❤️ Heart attack symptoms in women aren’t always obvious — but knowing the signs can save your life.

Today, on National Wear Red Day, we’re raising awareness about heart disease and why it’s especially important for Black and Hispanic women to recognize symptoms early and understand their personal risk factors.

Preventive care matters. Seeing your primary care provider every year helps keep a close watch on blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes and other risk factors for heart disease.

myths are everywhere, but here’s the real story. It’s not a harmless childhood illness. It spreads super fast, and anyone unvaccinated is at high risk. The MMR gives about 97% protection, which means it’s the easiest and safest way to stay protected.

Seattle Seahawks fans will be cheering loud this Sunday, but all that yelling can leave your voice feeling rough the next day. Olivia Goodell, MS, CCC-SLP, a speech pathologist at Providence Swedish, shares tips to protect your voice on game day:

- Use breath to project, not throat tension
- Stay hydrated
- If you wake up hoarse, rest and try gentle humming or straw bubbling

Bring the noise like Norb Caoili, save your voice, and cheer like the 12s do best. GO HAWKS! 💙💚
