Oftentimes I choose to suspend my predictions about certain ideas and behaviors with my clients so that they can follow their intuitions and play things out. Rather than always getting into a power struggle, I want them to choose and to collect information without my feelings getting too much in the way. What happens when we get out of these dynamics is that people are able to register their own choice AND notice the benefits and consequences that naturally come. This is how learning happens. The kind of learning that will stick because it is experiential by nature. "You think that will work? Okay, cool...let's see what play out and pay attention to the fruit!"
This tactic is never gamey or manipulative for me. It is truly about learning how to learn. I'm not waiting to say "gotcha, I told you so!". Sometimes I am the one that learns just as much as anyone else.
I wonder what we might learn about the nature of our humanity and health by the article below? In the most wealthy, powerful, and technologically advanced city in the history of humanity...the fruit is a growing epidemic of loneliness. Might this offer a warning to some of our own fantasies. Every choice has benefits and consequences. Maybe profound loneliness is just what comes with great wealth and power. Might be worth considering for all of us chasing the American dream today.
A county in the San Francisco Bay Area that includes part of Silicon Valley has declared loneliness a public health emergency — the first U.S. county to do so.
