Valentine’s Day tends to spotlight flowers, date nights, and big romantic gestures. ❤️
But real intimacy? It’s built in the everyday moments of connection.

Alongside trust, communication, and shared values, physical intimacy—when it’s consensual and mutually fulfilling—can meaningfully strengthen a relationship.

✨ It deepens emotional bonding (thank you, oxytocin).
✨ It opens the door to honest conversations about needs and boundaries.
✨ It reduces stress and creates space for comfort and play.
✨ It supports overall emotional and physical well-being.
✨ It fosters vulnerability and closeness beyond the physical act itself.

It’s not about frequency. It’s about quality, consent, and feeling attuned to one another.

If this season brings up pressure, distance, or questions about your connection, that’s more common than we talk about. Intimacy ebbs and flows—and sometimes having a supportive space to sort through it can make all the difference.

We offer couples therapy (including low-cost options) for partners who want to reconnect, communicate more openly, or simply feel closer again.

If it feels like time for that conversation, we’re here. Inquire at the link in our bio, our match specialist will work to find the best therapist for you.

My first year as a therapist has taught me far more about slowing down than having answers.

I came into this work wanting to be the kind of support I didn’t grow up with—especially as someone from a community where emotions were often something to push past, not sit with.

What I’ve learned is this: presence matters more than perfection. Trusting your gut matters. Being human matters.

Therapy isn’t about fixing people. It’s about creating enough safety for someone to soften, reflect, and sometimes choose differently—even for a moment.

I’m still learning too. And maybe that’s the point.
We’re all finding our way home, one hour at a time.

Chronic pain touches more than the body, it can shape how we see ourselves, move through the world, and connect with others.
In a recent piece from The Seattle Times, Self Space therapist, Tucker Robinson, LMHCA, NCC, MaED , shares how therapy can help people living with chronic pain find gentleness, hope, and new ways of relating to their bodies. “It’s common to feel like your body is the enemy,” Tucker shares. “But through therapy, people can find small moments of freedom and relate to pain in a new way.”
At Self Space, we believe healing begins with compassion— for our bodies, our stories, and the pain we carry.

Words matter—especially when we’re speaking to children about who they are.

In a recent HuffPost feature, therapist Kate Roberts of Self Space Therapy offered insight into why some of the most common phrases we say to introverted children—like “speak up more” or “stop being so shy”—can unintentionally cause harm.

Supporting introverted kids means helping them feel seen, not asking them to be someone else. As Kate shares, introversion is a meaningful and valid way of engaging with the world—and when it’s honored, kids learn to trust themselves.

This is a powerful read for anyone navigating parenting, caregiving, or child-focused work.

Summer with kids at home can be a beautiful kind of chaos.
For many parents, caring for everyone else often means putting their own needs last.

This post is a gentle reminder: your mental health matters, too.
Progress isn’t about perfect days—it’s about presence, small resets, and showing up with care.

🌿 How are you taking care of yourself this weekend—especially in the in-between moments?

“Is this the right way to do this?”
It’s a question I hear often when I bring art materials into the therapy room. Faced with a blank page and endless possibilities—watercolors, pencils, textures—many clients freeze. Not because they’re unwilling, but because following intuition can feel unfamiliar. Risky, even.

As an art therapist, I’ve come to see these moments not as hesitation, but as quiet openings. Opportunities to reconnect with the parts of ourselves we’ve been taught to second-guess or silence. Creativity, after all, is where many of us first found expression—before we had the words, before we needed permission.
Art therapy creates space for that re-connection. It invites intuition forward, not as

something optional, but as something essential. My hope is to offer both the freedom to explore and the structure to hold what we find.
Because healing isn’t always about having the “right” words. Sometimes, it’s about picking up a brush—and trusting what shows up on the page.

Becca Reynolds, MA LMHC, is an art therapist at Self Space. Through a balance of structure and freedom, her approach helps clients reconnect with quieted parts of themselves—using art as a language for healing. Follow the link in our highlights under “Team” to connect with Becca today.

What does kayaking have to do with therapy? Hear from Self Space therapist Kate Roberts, LMHC, as she describes, in her words, how the thoughtful gift of her father has expanded her insights & brought invaluable lessons to her own mindset around therapy. An excerpt below:

”When I’m on the water, I prefer to have no agenda. This is my respite from the to-do list, from the constant pressure to make something productive out of it. I’m not picking a spot down the way and timing myself. I’m not trying to achieve anything or “make it count.”

And that feels weirdly radical right now.”

If you’ve considered the notion of seeking support in the form of therapy, but you’re not sure if you “need” it, see if any of the below feelings resonate with you:

Persistent Sadness or Hopelessness
If feelings of sadness persist for weeks without relief, it may be time to seek professional help. Therapy can help you understand the root causes of these emotions and guide you toward healing.

Overwhelming Anxiety
Excessive worry, constant fear, or panic attacks can significantly impact your daily life. Therapy provides strategies to manage anxiety and regain a sense of control.

Difficulty Managing Emotions
If emotions feel out of control—whether through mood swings, frustration, or emotional overwhelm—therapy offers valuable tools to better understand and regulate your feelings.

Relationship Struggles
Communication challenges with loved ones or feelings of disconnection may indicate deeper issues that therapy can help address, fostering healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

Feeling Stuck or Directionless
A sense of being lost or uncertain about your life’s direction is a common reason to seek therapy. It can offer the clarity needed to set meaningful goals and regain a sense of purpose.

Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms
Engaging in harmful behaviors to manage emotional pain, such as substance use or self-harm, is a sign that therapy is needed to uncover underlying issues and establish healthier coping strategies.

Isolation or Withdrawal
Withdrawing from social connections or feeling emotionally distant from others can be a sign of emotional distress. Therapy can help you reconnect with yourself and others, promoting healing and emotional well-being.

If any of these thoughts or feelings resonate, it may be helpful to seek support. Follow the link to get started with our match specialist today → www.selfspaceseattle.com/book-now
