Joshua Magallanes PLLC

Joshua Magallanes PLLC Therapy is a journey that Therapist and Client take together. I provide therapy that examines the whole client through a social justice framework.

Existential therapy is mostly focused on how human beings find meaning in the face of sometimes harsh and inescapable realities of life. I help individuals cope with mechanisms that will help find ways to make different choices and re-invent ourselves; so we then become the architect, the planner and the builder of our lives, throughout our lives. I use a variety of techniques in therapy while trying to fit what I do with what works for you. These are likely to include dialogue, interpretation, cognitive restructuring, reframing, relaxation techniques, visualization, gestalt awareness experiments, self-monitoring exercises, bibliotherapy, exploring family of origin, attachment, systems theory, multicultural frameworks, and oppression awareness. One of the most important things to remember is the therapeutic relationship is like a team, and I will walk beside you every step of the way. Understanding how the world around us relates to our very existence is vital to the progress we make. I am also a Multicultural Educator and facilitate workshops and presentations that deal with undoing multiple oppression at various organizations and schools. Let me help your department or organization understand how to work better in harmony and with each other in a more productive way.

I see how overlapping identities complicate stress — like a q***r person of color feeling both workplace microaggressions and family pressure. In therapy I use targeted tools (e.g., cognitive restructuring, attachment work) to reduce shame and build coping skills. If you’re in Seattle and want a therapist who understands your lived context, I’m here to help. Learn more: https://wix.to/WMGIUzN

At Joshua Therapy, I use a social justice framework to guide assessment, goals, and treatment—especially with q***r clients and communities of color in Seattle (2331 East Madison Street). I center structural stress and advocacy alongside clinical tools like cognitive restructuring and attachment-informed techniques. That means we name systemic factors affecting your mental health, set goals that build empowerment, and use evidence-based interventions tailored to your identity and community. I offer both clinical rigor and community-responsive support. Learn more and book an appointment: https://wix.to/pDKVNv6

We meet people where they are — whole, complex, and shaped by identity. I adapt therapy to how race, gender, sexuality, and class interact with anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship stress. For example: • A q***r Latinx adult navigating family expectations and anxiety (affirming, culturally aware approaches). • A Black teen coping with racial trauma and school stress (trauma-informed, identity-affirming care). • A low-income trans elder facing isolation and medical mistrust (practical resources plus emotional support). We prioritize LGBTQIA+ clients and communities of color, offering culturally attuned tools, concrete coping strategies, and collaborative treatment planning. If you’re looking for care that understands the whole you, we’re here. Learn more and book at https://wix.to/Dr2DUEn

Intentions, Not Resolutions: a simple micro-exercise for q***r and BIPOC folks. I offer one clear, low-barrier practice to set an intention that honors cultural context and collective resilience.

“I felt seen and less alone after trying this—small practice, big relief.” (anonymous)

This approach fits with our social-justice-informed modalities at Joshua Magallanes PLLC—attachment-focused work plus practical cognitive techniques—to reduce pressure and build self-compassion. If you’re in Seattle and thinking about a first session in January, I can help you start with something manageable and culturally responsive.

Holiday stress can stir old hurts; I use cognitive restructuring to help you spot a triggering thought, challenge its evidence, and replace it with a kinder, truer alternative (step 1: name the thought; step 2: test and reframe). This brief, evidence-based technique pairs well with my attachment-informed work and is tailored for anticipatory shame or intergenerational tension common in LGBTQIA+ and communities of color. You are not alone — if you’re in Seattle (near 2331 East Madison Street), I’m available for follow-up support. Learn more: https://wix.to/5ohNzDg
