Joshua Magallanes PLLC

Joshua Magallanes PLLC Therapy is a journey that Therapist and Client take together. I provide therapy that examines the whole client through a social justice framework.

Existential therapy is mostly focused on how human beings find meaning in the face of sometimes harsh and inescapable realities of life. I help individuals cope with mechanisms that will help find ways to make different choices and re-invent ourselves; so we then become the architect, the planner and the builder of our lives, throughout our lives. I use a variety of techniques in therapy while trying to fit what I do with what works for you. These are likely to include dialogue, interpretation, cognitive restructuring, reframing, relaxation techniques, visualization, gestalt awareness experiments, self-monitoring exercises, bibliotherapy, exploring family of origin, attachment, systems theory, multicultural frameworks, and oppression awareness. One of the most important things to remember is the therapeutic relationship is like a team, and I will walk beside you every step of the way. Understanding how the world around us relates to our very existence is vital to the progress we make. I am also a Multicultural Educator and facilitate workshops and presentations that deal with undoing multiple oppression at various organizations and schools. Let me help your department or organization understand how to work better in harmony and with each other in a more productive way.

Holidays can intensify identity-related stress for LGBTQIA+ people and communities of color. I see how cultural expectations, family dynamics, and past attachment wounds can converge and make rest feel out of reach. i combine attachment-informed therapy and cognitive techniques (like gentle cognitive restructuring) to help you name what’s happening and make practical shifts.

Micro-practice: Try 4-6 slow breaths where you imagine safe presence on the inhale and supported connection on the exhale (attachment-aware breathing). Repeat for 2–3 minutes to ground your nervous system.

I offer in-person and remote sessions in Seattle and welcome individuals, couples, and groups—especially LGBTQIA+ folks and people of color. If you’d like support, visit https://wix.to/oSfWLCk to learn more or book.

Holidays can be heavy — here are three quick grounding practices you can use in the moment: 1) Breath anchor: inhale for 4, exhale for 6 while naming one steady truth (“I am safe for now”); 2) Sensory check-in: name 3 things you can see, 2 you can touch, 1 you can hear; 3) Micro-boundary script: “I need a short break—I'll be back in X minutes.” I offer culturally responsive, social-justice-informed therapy with remote and sliding-scale options for q***r and BIPOC clients in Seattle . At Joshua Magallanes PLLC, we work with clients to turn identity-based stress into clear goals and practical steps. Recently I supported a q***r client of color who wanted less social anxiety at work and stronger relationships at home. We collaborated on a plan: 1) cognitive restructuring to reframe self-critical thoughts, 2) attachment work to build trust in relationships, and 3) community-centered coping strategies (peer support and boundary setting). Over months they reported fewer panic moments, more honest conversations, and a renewed sense of belonging in the East Madison Street neighborhood. If you’re seeking justice-oriented, intersectional care in Seattle, I’d welcome a conversation. Schedule a visit: https://wix.to/h19TS5V

I offer three brief reflective prompts you can use before or between sessions to clarify identity-related stressors and guide our work together. 1) Which parts of my identity feel safest right now, and which feel most vulnerable? (This shows immediate grounding and targets safety.) 2) What past expe...

As the holiday season approaches, I’m reaching out to acknowledge that this time of year can be particularly challenging, especially for those in the q***r and communities of color. It's okay to have mixed feelings. You’re not alone in this.
