We are saddened to share the passing of Leon Bridges, a former YMCA of Greater Seattle Board Director who served from 1967–1972.
Leon was also a pioneering Black architect whose connection to the Y extended beyond governance. In the late 1950s and 1960s, he designed the Meredith Mathews East Madison YMCA as the first project of his own firm, helping shape Y spaces rooted in welcome and belonging during a pivotal era in our history.
We honor Leon's legacy of leadership, service, and community impact, and extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
