Did you know there are OPTIMAL times to check your hormones?

We are complex, beautiful creatures and of course our hormones can’t be so simple. 🫠

TESTOSTERONE: Morning is the best time for both men and women, between 7-10am. Even better if drawn in a fasting state.

ESTROGEN: I tend to order estrogen and progesterone the last week before the start of period (luteal phase). It can also be tested Day 3 of cycle.

PROGESTERONE: highest in Luteal phase, catch this chick days 19-22 along with Estrogen.

CORTISOL: this fireball fluctuates all throughout the day but the highest is in the morning as it peaks ~1 hr after waking. Avoid stimulating activities beforehand.

THYROID: Any time of the month, best in the AM.

INSULIN: Any time of the month, best in the AM in a fasted state.

If you don’t have a regular period, you can use OPK/LH strips to figure out when you may hit ovulation and aim for a week after that. Or, just blind test and we can guess where you’re at.

There is an art to testing hormones and it totally makes a difference when you time it right!

A student last week asked what I felt was the best modality to stimulate the body’s 𝐕𝐢𝐬 (the power to heal itself).

My answer: Anything involving a needle. 💉

As a doc who works with a lot of needles, I have seen profound healing when the disease process is disrupted and the body is challenged to step up to the plate.

In acupuncture, the thoughtful placement of needles along meridians can move a mountain of Qi. In IV therapy, nutrients can be delivered directly into tissues via needle more than you can consume in one setting. In prolotherapy, the needle injection stimulates ligaments and connective tissue to heal and regenerate.

Needles may be feared because of its ability to do harm, but, when used responsibly with purpose, it can trigger a powerful cascade for healing!

Come as you are.

As a doctor, I care about your well-being, not your looks.

Don’t be embarrassed.
Don’t feel ashamed.
I literally study the human body for a living!

However, DO be completely honest with me. Tell me if you’re feeling “off”, if there’s odd discharge, if you’re experiencing pain with s*x. I wanna hear the p**p quality, the gas, the bloat. Give me all the details because that’s how we figure out what is normal or not.

Doctors are supposed to help, not judge. And if you’re feeling judged, G**O and find another. 👏🏼

The cl****is: a small, but mighty little s*x organ!

While it would seem there is much pleasure to be experienced “down there”, about 40% of women deal with s*xual dysfunction!

This can be due to hormone changes, postpartum, trauma, medications, pelvic floor imbalance, inflammatory gyne conditions like endometriosis, fibroids, vaginitis, lichen sclerosis.

And of course, pleasure is very much mental/emotional, too.

A healthy s*x life is a vital part of health and I take s*xual dysfunction in women’s health very seriously. We work on root causes, refer to pelvic floor and s*x therapy.

I also specialize in the 𝗩-𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘁, a natural, non-surgical injection that stimulates tissue regeneration in the cl****is, internal and external va**na.

If you’re dealing with s*xual dis-ease, bring it up with a doctor / therapist / PT. You deserve to experience the power of your body.

I woke up this morning with a start, thinking I missed my alarm for work. My heart contractions softened once I remembered it was Sunday 😌

It made me wonder if we truly relax outside of work. Do we ever fully recharge?

We’re mindful of the battery life on our phones, why don’t we care for our own?

My head is always 2 steps ahead of my body. I get lost in the list of things to do and I prioritize other’s needs before mine. “I’ll get back to you,” is what my brain 🧠 tells my body.

I hope you get the chance to be present with yourself and your needs today. May your cup runneth over. ♥️

Medicine = Science + Art

Dr. Grace Chang is passionate in providing patient-centered, integrative healthcare. Trained in both Western and Eastern medicine, she believes in empowering her patients, establishing back-to-basics foundations of health.

Born and raised in sunny California, Dr. Chang spent her childhood running around her parent’s restaurant. Family ailments were always first addressed with food and herbs. At an early age, Dr. Chang discovered her father’s medical condition was not actively being addressed due to a language barrier with his doctor. Her involvement with translating and strengthening that patient-doctor relationship led her pursuit to become a physician.

Dr. Chang received her undergraduate degree in Exercise Biology and Psychology at the University of California, Davis. Craving to dive further into holistic internal medicine, she completed her Naturopathic medical training and Masters in Acupuncture and East Asian Herbal Medicine at Bastyr University. She has since completed a two-year CNME accredited residency at Natural Medicine of Seattle.

Dr. Chang’s practice blends evidence-based medicine with natural modalities. Treatment specialties: functional medicine, IV therapy, acupuncture, and injection therapies. Her clinical interests include: anti-aging wellness, allergies, eczema, hormone imbalances, digestive concerns, menstrual disorders and musculoskeletal pain relief. Outside of medicine, you can find Dr. Chang outdoors backpacking, formulating teas with her husband, and cooing at her rabbit, Chibi.
