It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Dr. Donald Geldart this morning, a loss felt even more deeply as it comes during the Thanksgiving season, a time when we reflect on gratitude and the people who have shaped our lives and communities.

Dr. Geldart joined the medical staff at Walker Memorial in 1977, opening his first practice on Main Street in Avon Park. He later established a second practice on Pleasant Street, where he continued serving the community until transitioning to full-time work with the AdventHealth Residency Program in 2024. Over nearly five decades in the Heartland, he devoted himself to caring for the people of Highlands and Hardee Counties and beyond, touching thousands of lives with his steady compassion and unwavering faith. He was a visionary who helped shape health care in the Heartland and left a legacy that will endure for generations.
Throughout his career, Dr. Geldart faithfully served the former Florida Hospital Orlando Residency, numerous nursing homes, multiple medical directorships, EMS, emergency departments, county jails in Hardee, DeSoto, Okeechobee and Highlands counties, and later as a hospitalist at AdventHealth Wauchula. His life’s work was rooted in service, and his kindness and humility were evident in every patient he cared for.

Dr. Geldart leaves behind his children Mike, Kim and Krystal. His compassionate presence and deep commitment to his community will be profoundly missed. As we move through this holiday season, we hold his family, his colleagues and all who loved him in our hearts with deep gratitude for a life so fully and faithfully lived.
