Thank you Highlands County! 💫🎉

I set up shop in this community 4 years ago and you all have welcomed me warmly. I found that there was more interest in the complentary medicine I practice than I expected!

I am constantly humbled by the way so many of you have referred me to your friends and family. Healing is a journey and I am so thankful to those of you who have included me on yours.

Here's to continuing to learn from one another and to growing our community of holistic health and healing. 🌱🌿

This is some of most simple and effective New Year's nutrition advice I can offer. This hangs in my office for a daily reminder to us all. Also, move your body, outdoors if possible 🏃🏽‍♀️💃🏼🏌️🚴🏊

This-->>> Chris Stinson]..
It's a bummer that our brain is always leading our awareness to problems.

It does this because it believes every small problem is a threat to our survival. And the brain has evolved for millions of years to do just one thing, keep us alive.

The problem here is that in today's world, we don't face many primal problems. There are no tigers in the bush waiting to kill us. There are only intellectual problems like what is someone going to think about me if I say this.

The brain doesn't know the difference, so it elevates every problem to be a threat to survival. And it's been running this program for thousands of generations.

So rather than let the brain's default state cause you stress and anxiety and overwhelm, we get to add intention to our self talk and show ourselves that in this moment, there are no problems.

This process starts with becoming an observer of your thoughts, and ends when you are able to craft an intelligent response to your thinking, rather than react on autopilot like you have been doing your whole life.

You can not control the first thought that pops into your head, but you can always control the second.

The most powerful moment in time is the space between an event, and your reaction to it.

Is your thinking bringing your down and getting in the way of your goals, dreams, and aspirations?

You are not alone. Most everyone suffers from this.

But those that have learned how to overcome these automatic negative thoughts are the ones enjoying happiness, peace, joy and fulfillment.

I'm a white woman who practices Chinese medicine. That means it is not enough for me to just repost these powerful images, but to live them. Chinese medicine has been a gift to me and many patients of mine. It is on me to stay rooted in the traditional teachings and to work to honor those traditions that I am borrowing from another culture. I will continue to further my education into the ways I can be most respectful in practicing this medicine and I will continue to interrupt racist remarks and actions towards Asian Americans and other minority friends. Will you stand up to hate with me?

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been an unprecedented number of violent attacks against Asian Americans, and we can no longer stand in silence. Help us to unite and rise above racism. Let’s remind ourselves that we are all human first.

📣See something, say something. The bystander effect is real and consequential
📣Report incidents, contact your congress representative
📣Check in with Asian friends and family, take care of yourself, be alert, be smart, and be safe
📣Stay informed, share what is happening to your community and help raise awareness on social media, educate yourself and others
📣Your presence and support for Asian owned businesses (online or offline). It may seem like a small gesture, but it makes a big difference in showing solidarity

I received this message from Dr. Lori Kreulen yesterday after she sent me a patient of hers to try acupuncture to help her chiropractic adjustments along. It is always a joy to see practitioners of different modalities find the benefits of acupuncture and Chinese medicine. It's all about the patient and often, healing is best supported by a team of physicians cooperating for the best interest of the patient. This is why I love practicing the way I do 😊

I recently commissioned this painting from a patient and am loving the brightness it brings to the clinic. Such an important reminder to us all that often, healing is not linear, but that doesn't mean we are not progressing. 💜

Can you feel the warmth & nourishment emanating from this image?!? A patient sent this to me after we discussed the importance of incorporating warm, cooked food in the diet. From a Chinese medicine perspective, warm soups and stews offer easy to digest nutrition. We have been taught that juicing and smoothies and salads are the healthiest choices--and they do have their place. But when we're feeling run down and sluggish, or digestion feels off, or we are experiencing frequent colds, post nasal drip, and allergies the first place to start is with nutrition and warming up to support healing 🍜🍛🍵

More about Shannon

Dr. Shannon Markland is a board certified, licensed Acupuncture Physician in the state of Florida. She began practicing at Clancy Acupuncture & Wellness Clinic in Lake Placid beginning August, 2018 and recently opened her own clinic in Sebring, Florida at 139 E. Center Ave just off the downtown Sebring circle.

Shannon offers an integrative health care approach in her practice. She uses acupuncture therapy, herbal medicine, and lifestyle and eastern nutrition teachings to support a patient’s well-being whether they are simultaneously engaged in biomedical treatments for their conditions or whether they are looking for an alternative route to healing.

She spent 4 years studying and practicing at the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in Chicago, IL where she earned a Masters of Science degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine. While there, she volunteered with the Chicago Healing Justice Network to help organize and host community care nights which provided free health care consultations and treatments to individuals in need. She worked for several years at Project Vida, a community outreach clinic in a small Latino neighborhood treating patients with chronic pain disorders and trauma victims. She has also worked in Haiti with a medical organization called Friends of the Children, providing free health care and medicine to local Haitian families.
