WHEN ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
As members of the Medical Staff at Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center, we are sick and tired of reading negative press about the hospital. Until now, we have
felt that remaining silent was the best approach to take, but pride and commitment will no longer allow us to sit and watch this accomplished medical center be
subject to biased criticism.
Since late 2010, the hospital’s management has been working extremely hard to improve patient care and safety at the hospital. Recently, The Record newspaper
reported it best with a headline story that read in part:
“Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center improved to a B in the latest hospital grades for patient safety, reported Tuesday by the nonprofit
Leapfrog Group. The rest of North Jersey’s hospitals maintained the grades they received six months ago.” (May 8, 2013)
MHMC was the only New Jersey hospital to improve its patient safety score.
Also, reports by Press Ganey, the unquestioned national measurement on patient perception and satisfaction, demonstrate significant improvements in the
hospital’s rankings under the new ownership. Our doctors are ranked at the 84% percentile, well above the New Jersey and national averages for patient
satisfaction (http://www.medicare.gov/hospitalcompare). Additionally, MHMC ranks as the cleanest hospital in the United States with a zero percent infection
rate! (www.hospitalsafetyscore.org)
The positive transformation of Meadowlands Hospital can be seen everywhere, since new management assumed operations:
• 250 new doctors have joined the Medical Staff
• The numbers of specialties and sub-specialties have vastly expanded
• Significant investments have been made in facility renovations and technology upgrades
• New treatments and services have been added
• The latest in diagnostic and treatment technology has been introduced
• A medical school affiliation has been established
Our patients are loyal to Meadowlands Hospital and often comment on these improvements. As physicians, we find it disturbing and counter-productive to waste
time explaining the truth and the real motives behind the negativity. The truth is that the leadership of the Health Professionals and Allied Employees (HPAE),
headed by Ann Twomey, is cynically conjuring up claims that are ultimately proving to be baseless.
Yet, in the blind pursuit of some presumed negotiating “leverage,” the leadership maliciously smears both the reputation won back by the hospital, and tarnishes
the tasks of the very employees who helped make this possible! Many of these employees, by the way, are very sincere, professional and hard-working union
employees who say they are being humiliated by Twomey’s inexplicable actions. The hospital has made and kept its promises to the communities it serves. In 33
months under current management , Meadowlands Hospital has been the subject of 20 anonymous (read: Twomey) and unwarranted complaints to the New
Jersey Department of Health.
Fortunately, the truth prevails. Independent measurements and rankings do not lie. MHMC’s scores and rankings continue to improve, as shown at www.
meadowlandshospital.org.
Our diagnosis for Meadowlands Hospital is bright and promising. We promise.
