Last week, we welcomed back a former client, now psychology student, who is exploring a career in the field. She spent the week observing groups, shadowing clinicians, and meeting with members of our team to gain a deeper understanding of the clinical practice.
One experience that stood out to her was observing our therapeutic groups and the way clinicians guide discussion and support client participation.
“The observation component was huge for me. Getting to see how therapists guide conversations and hold space for people to share honestly was really powerful.”
Having previously experienced the program as a client, she also reflected on returning several years later to see its development. She noted the importance of an intentional therapeutic structure and emphasis on meeting the individual needs of each client.
Speaking on the program’s collaborative environment, she says “The emphasis on community here is really beautiful. Seeing how the team builds off each other to support clients and create space for vulnerability was incredibly meaningful. The student body is really strong, you watch clients in group really utilize the space and each other”.
Seeing former clients return as future professionals is a beautiful reminder of the long-term impact of this work. We are so grateful she spent the week with us, and look forward to following along as she continues to her masters!
