CMSgt Roger H. Atchley (Ret.)

It is with deep respect and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Chief Master Sergeant Roger H. Atchley (Ret.), a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished member of his community. Born on January 2, 1944, in Sabinal, Texas, Roger departed this life on March 16, 2026, in Seguin, Texas, leaving behind a legacy marked by unwavering service, dedication, and love.

Roger's distinguished career is a testament to his commitment to protecting others. He proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserves for 25 years, retiring with the esteemed rank of Chief Master Sergeant on November 8, 1999. Along with his military service, he devoted 32 years to the San Antonio Fire Department, retiring as a Lieutenant. His life’s work was guided by an enduring dedication to safeguarding life and property, a mission he embraced with honor and pride.

Beyond his professional achievements, Roger's greatest pride came from his roles within his family. For 62 years, he was a loving and devoted husband to Jeannie Atchley, sharing a bond that stood as a pillar of strength and companionship. Together, they nurtured a family rooted in love and mutual support. Roger was the proud father of Ronnie Atchley and his wife Connie, and Todd Atchley and his wife Brandi. His joy extended abundantly to his grandchildren—Kimberly Allen and her husband Corey, Brittany Smith and her husband Ty, Chelsea Davenport, Justin Atchley and his wife Shelby, Kaylee King and her husband Cole, Shyann Edwards and her husband Walker, and Amber Atchley and Clay—and to the numerous great-grandchildren who shared in his warmth and guidance.

Roger cherished spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often seen cheering with pride at their sporting events. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing baseball and continued his love for the sport through participation in softball with fellow San Antonio firefighters. His passions also included fishing along the Texas Coast and hunting whitetail deer at The Ranch in Uvalde. An avid horse owner and rider, he found joy and freedom in the company of his horses. Later in life, he embraced coaching his grandchildren, fostering both their athletic talents and their confidence.

Born to Ray Atchley and Inez Atchley, Roger carried forward a legacy of hard work and integrity. Though his parents preceded him in death, his spirit lives on through the family and community he so deeply influenced.

Roger’s life was a vivid tapestry woven with dedication to his country, commitment to public safety, and profound love for his family. He will be remembered not only for his distinguished military and firefighting careers but also for his generous heart, his steady presence, and his unwavering enthusiasm for life’s simple pleasures.

He leaves behind a legacy of service and love that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever be cherished by his wife Jeannie, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends.

In honoring the life of CMSgt Roger H. Atchley, we celebrate a man who embodied devotion—to duty, to family, and to the community he served so faithfully throughout his remarkable life.
