Principle 1: Realize that I'm not God. I admit that I am powerless to control my tendency to do the wrong thing and that my life is unmanageable.
"Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor." - Matthew 5:3

We often feel like the way to overcome our problems is through gaining control. We think that if we are strong enough, then we will find freedom. This road only leads to pain and disappointment. Proverbs 14:12 says, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." If we want to avoid this trap, we must rely on Christ, who is far wiser and more powerful than we are. Only by admitting our powerlessness and our need for Him do we find freedom. Surrender to Jesus is the way to healing! Even though we cannot manage on our own, He can!
