The Saddle Light Center For Therapeutic Horsemanship

The Saddle Light Center For Therapeutic Horsemanship The Saddle Light Center for Therapeutic Horsemanship is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation located in Selma, TX at Retama Equestrian Center.

We help to build the self-esteem and quality of life for special needs individuals within Bexar County and surrounding areas through equine-assisted activities. As a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (P.A.T.H.) organization, we provide therapeutic horseback riding and hippotherapy to individuals with special needs within the San Antonio area with the goal of contributing positively to their cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being as to inspire them to accomplish things previously considered beyond their capabilities. Since our founding in 1991, through the generosity of our Sponsors and Volunteer workforce, we have grown from a few horses to a program that now provides equine therapy to 60 plus riders each week with a team of 13 horses. Through this program, the Saddle Light Center is committed to improving the self-esteem and quality of life of the disabled population in the San Antonio area. Our mission is to provide equestrian therapy for children, teenagers, and adults with neurological, orthopedic, learning, emotional or other disabilities. Our goal is to inspire our riders to accomplishments previously considered beyond their capabilities.

🐴 Meet the Herd Monday: Beau

Beau joined The Saddle Light Center herd in 2017.

Born in 2004, this handsome 16.2-hand Thoroughbred gelding had a difficult start to life. After being injured and abandoned during his racing career, he was rescued and given a second chance.

With patience and care, Beau regained trust and began a new career in dressage and riding work.

Today, this gentle giant is a wonderful therapy partner. His strong frame and smooth gait make him a great match for many of our larger riders.

Beau is proof that second chances can lead to something truly special. 💙🐴

✨ Follow along each Monday to meet the horses who make the magic happen at The Saddle Light Center.
