The Saddle Light Center For Therapeutic Horsemanship

The Saddle Light Center For Therapeutic Horsemanship The Saddle Light Center for Therapeutic Horsemanship is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation located in Selma, TX at Retama Equestrian Center.

We help to build the self-esteem and quality of life for special needs individuals within Bexar County and surrounding areas through equine-assisted activities. As a Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (P.A.T.H.) organization, we provide therapeutic horseback riding and hippotherapy to individuals with special needs within the San Antonio area with the goal of contributing positively to their cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being as to inspire them to accomplish things previously considered beyond their capabilities. Since our founding in 1991, through the generosity of our Sponsors and Volunteer workforce, we have grown from a few horses to a program that now provides equine therapy to 60 plus riders each week with a team of 13 horses. Through this program, the Saddle Light Center is committed to improving the self-esteem and quality of life of the disabled population in the San Antonio area. Our mission is to provide equestrian therapy for children, teenagers, and adults with neurological, orthopedic, learning, emotional or other disabilities. Our goal is to inspire our riders to accomplishments previously considered beyond their capabilities.

🌸🐴 Spring Break Notice 🐴🌸

The Saddle Light Center will be closed for rider lessons during Spring Break (March 9–13). We hope our riders, caregivers, and families enjoy a wonderful and restful break!

Our horses will definitely miss seeing their riders this week! 💙

Volunteers — we still need you! Our horses still need care even when lessons aren’t in session. If you’d like to help, please sign up in the barn for the shift you’d like to work or reach out to your lead volunteer.

During Spring Break, volunteer time will focus on horse care and barn chores.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back when our Spring Session begins March 16 and runs through May 22!

Thank you to our amazing volunteers for helping keep the barn running. 💙🐴

✨🐴 Thank You, Spurs Sorority! 🐴✨

We are so grateful to Spurs Sorority for coming out not once but twice this month to serve at The Saddle Light Center!

On February 15th, they took on some major barn projects, including:

• Cleaning and scrubbing all water buckets
• Cleaning and scrubbing the corner feeders
• Cleaning both paddock water troughs
• Sweeping cobwebs and dust from stall walls
• Dusting each individual stall

These were no small tasks. Many of these jobs were messy and dirty, but the girls didn’t hesitate to roll up their sleeves and get to work. They worked incredibly hard, and their dedication made a real difference in the care and comfort of our horses.

Then they returned on February 28th and continued making a huge impact! They:

• Stained and sealed our mounting ramps
• Cleaned out Magoo’s and Schooner’s stall mats

Again, they stepped in with positive attitudes and strong work ethic, helping us improve both safety and cleanliness around the barn.

We are so thankful for their energy, teamwork, and willingness to serve. Spurs Sorority, your hard work does not go unnoticed. 💙🐴
