I am a child of a person who suffered from addiction… it was not my fault.
How often do you find yourself blaming yourself?

We will send reminds and post on here before but as of now we will plan to start back august 10th. Thank you!!

Think about this for a second. Jesus knew.

He goes into that room with His disciples. He knows He is going to be betrayed. He knows it is Judas who will turn against him. He knows that He has been sold out for a handful of silver. Stabbed in the back by one He has poured His life into.

Yet, in that room, hours before the death of Jesus, Judas ate too. Jesus fed Judas too. Jesus prayed for Judas too. Jesus washed Judas’ feet too. I struggle to fathom that kind of love. A love that would feed the mouth that deceived you. A love that would wash the treasonous feet of the traitor. A love that could forgive even the vilest of betrayals.

It's hard to imagine offering that kind of forgiveness and mercy to someone. Jesus chose to love Judas. If you think about it for a moment. In one way or another we are all Judas. We have all sinned against God. We have all done things we may feel are unworthy of forgiveness. But unlike the heart of us earthly people, God will always offer his forgiveness.

It's an incredible feeling knowing now, that Judas ate too.

In our attempt to be Christ like, may we all learn to forgive the Judas in our own life.

Tonight we will be walking through the first step of the twelve steps of Al-Alanon. This is a 12 step program for family members impacted by alcoholism and addiction of substances.

Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable

The goal of our class is to walk through these steps from a biblical perspective with openness for you to share your struggles and heart. The steps are focused on alcoholism in families but that is interchangeable with all addictions and that is our groups focus.

Come as you are. You are welcome to share your heart or sit and listen with an open heart.

Also, if you have children Tiffany Trulson Fredrickson has a room she can bring them in and do activities with them during the class if you want someone to watch them or they can hang out with us! Whatever works for you and your family.

If you have a family member struggling with any addiction they can attend class at the cypress house across the parking lot at the same time as well!

Remember we can do nothing apart from Christ.

Come hang out with us at the Houston house in the FBC selmer parking lot at 6:30 tonight. If you have questions contact Anna Coln Smith, Jeff Coln or me!

One of the most compassionate things we can do for others is create a space where they know they’re welcome just as they are. Around a table. On a walk. Maybe even a road trip. Initiating those moments where togetherness says, “You belong. You have a place. You have a voice. You have people. You are loved.”

When you’re hurting, it can feel isolating when you aren’t sure how to talk about the hard things or who can safely hold your honest thoughts. But compassion allows us to love people who are hurting, empathize with their pain, and acknowledge their side of things, even if we can’t change the outcome or fix things for them.

Only God can do that.

But what can we do? Show up. Invite. Initiate. Comfort. Pray. Release our desire to control things or change people and just simply create space for the Holy Spirit to move.

We can show up with Jesus in our hearts and compassion in our words and just be there.

Who is someone in your life who may need to be reminded of this today? Let them know below that Jesus loves you, you love them, and you’re here for them.

This was posted on Proverbs 31 Ministries and it seemed very fitting for our group. Hope to see you all tonight at 6:30🤍

Judgement comes in all forms. We often think others are judging us based on our actions, family or situation when in all reality we are our own worst judges.

Come join us Thursday at 6:30pm at the cypress house where we share with grace and non-judgment and walk through what God says about loving others that struggle with addiction.

You are welcome. Come.
