We are living in the most “connected” generation in history… and yet anxiety is at an all-time high.
That’s not a coincidence.
Our nervous systems were not designed for constant alerts, endless comparison, breaking news cycles, and the pressure to be available 24/7. We were built for rhythm. For pauses. For face-to-face connection. For silence.
Instead, we scroll.
And here’s the hard truth:
Most screen time isn’t regulation. It’s dissociation.
There’s a difference.
✨ Regulation helps your nervous system settle. It increases capacity. It allows you to feel your feelings without being overwhelmed.
📱 Dissociation numbs, distracts, and disconnects. It gives temporary relief — but no resolution.
When we immediately grab our phones at the first sign of boredom, discomfort, loneliness, or stress, we aren’t soothing our nervous systems. We’re teaching them that feelings are unsafe to sit with.
Over time, this lowers distress tolerance.
It fragments attention.
It disrupts sleep.
It fuels comparison.
It keeps the brain in a low-grade threat response.
And then we wonder why anxiety feels constant.
Your brain needs boredom.
Your body needs stillness.
Your nervous system needs real regulation — breath, movement, sunlight, prayer, journaling, connection, rest.
Scrolling feels like relief.
But relief and regulation are not the same thing.
If you’ve been feeling more anxious lately, consider this gently:
What would happen if you paused instead of scrolled?
What feeling are you avoiding when you reach for your phone?
Awareness isn’t shame.
It’s power.
And sometimes the most radical thing you can do for your mental health… is put the phone down.
