Think of executive dysfunction as a glitchy air traffic control tower. In a neurotypical brain, the tower (the prefrontal cortex) directs planes to land, takeoff, and wait. In an ADHD brain, the tower is understaffed and low on fuel (dopamine), so the planes just do whatever they want.

🗂️Here is how that plays out in real life:

📑The “Wall of Awful”: Because the ADHD brain is chronically low on dopamine, it views “boring” tasks as physically painful. Without that dopamine “reward,” the brain literally cannot find the spark to initiate a task.

📑Time Blindness: Executive dysfunction makes it hard to “feel” time. You either exist in “Now” or “Not Now.” This leads to chronic lateness or losing hours to a hyperfocus rabbit hole.

📑Working Memory Gaps: The “mental sticky notes” you use to remember why you walked into a room or where you put your keys are constantly falling off.

📑Emotional Dysregulation: Executive function also controls the “brake” on your feelings. Without it, frustration or rejection can feel 10x more intense than they actually are.

In short, It’s not a lack of knowledge (you know how to do the task) or a lack of character (you aren’t “lazy”); it is a failure of the brain’s self-regulation system to bridge the gap between knowing and doing.

To ensure your care continues smoothly, we will be checking phone messages and processing necessary prescriptions on the following days:

Tuesday, December 23rd
Friday, December 26th

Important Note on Response Times
Please note that phone messages will not be monitored or returned on Wednesday, December 24th, or Thursday, December 25th. Calls received during that time will be returned starting Friday, December 26th, or Monday, December 29th.
