When a child is melting down, refusing to cooperate, or struggling with transitions, it’s not always a matter of “misbehavior.” More often, it’s a sign their nervous system is dysregulated and doesn’t feel safe enough to engage.
Research shows that when the stress response takes over, the prefrontal cortex( the part of the brain that helps with problem-solving, focus, and impulse control ) temporarily shuts down (Thayer & Lane, Biological Psychiatry, 2000). In other words: they’re not choosing chaos, their body is signaling stress.
Ways to support calmer, more regulated behavior include:
✔ Gentle chiropractic adjustments to reduce nervous system stress and strength communication through the body, breaking out of that flight or fight mode
✔ Routines that feel predictable and safe
✔ Nutrition that supports balanced blood sugar + lowers inflammation
✔ Connection and co-regulation with trusted caregivers
When the nervous system feels safe, behavior naturally follows. 💙
