The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) could be especially threatening to those who smoke to***co, ma*****na or v**e due to the diseases attach on the lungs. Additionally, people with opioid use disorder (OUD) may also be vulnerable with the effects that those drugs take on respiratory and pulmonary health. On top of the disease conditions, those with a substance use disorder are also more likely to experience homelessness or incarceration than those in the general population, posing more challenges in regard to transmission of COVID-19.

A new Truth Initiative® survey shows that almost half of 15- to 24-year-olds who v**e say quitting e-ci******es is a 2020 resolution and results of the 2019 National Youth To***co Survey also indicate widespread interest in quitting. More than half — 54.5% — of middle and high school students who currently use e-ci******es reported seriously thinking about quitting and nearly as many — 52.9% — reported trying to quit in the past year, according to the national survey administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Do you know how to properly dispose of the parts of an e-cigarette or v**e? Many of the parts cannot "just go in the trash". The Jackson County Health Department has recently started a new disposal program in partnership with the Recycling Office. Bring those parts into the office and we will properly dispose of them for you. No questions asked; we just want to help you.
