In recognition of Human Trafficking Prevention Month, the Office of Congresswoman Shontel Brown, in collaboration with the Collaborative to End Human Trafficking, is hosting a virtual webinar on January 28 from 6–7 PM on Preventing Youth Trafficking: What Families, Schools, and Communities Need to Know. This free, one-hour session will provide families, caregivers, educators, and community members with practical guidance on preventing youth trafficking, recognizing early warning signs, and connecting with trusted local resources.

The webinar will feature panelists from organizations serving children and families across the district, highlighting real-world prevention strategies and community collaboration. Bellefaire’s very own Karen McHenry, Director of Community Engagement, will participate in the discussion, sharing insights on prevention in practice and how coordinated efforts are keeping youth safe.

This January, during National Human Trafficking Prevention Month and every month, Bellefaire is dedicated to keeping vulnerable youth safe and supported. Our Homeless and Missing Youth Program helps approximately 4,000 teens and families each year by providing street outreach for youth who are homeless or at risk, 24/7 emergency support, assistance with food, clothing, and hygiene kits, and ongoing counseling for youth and families.

At Bellefaire, we are committed to helping youth build stability, resilience, and hope for the future. Together, we can ensure every young person has a safe place to turn and the support they need to thrive.

Students across our community face challenges every day, and having support at the right moment can make all the difference. In 2025, over 2,900 students received guidance and care from Bellefaire’s school-based counselors, which is an increase of more than 400 youth from the year prior. Through behavioral health care, consultation, and crisis support, counselors met students where they were, helping them navigate obstacles and take meaningful steps toward growth and confidence.

Every interaction has the power to make a difference. A student learning to manage strong emotions, a young person feeling truly understood, or someone finding the encouragement to take the next step forward. These moments build coping skills, confidence, and hope that carry far beyond the school day.

Yesterday, Bellefaire’s Homeless and Missing Youth Program was honored to present a community appreciation basket to Cuyahoga County’s Collaborative to End Human Trafficking. The team also shared about our new Coordinated Navigation Program, which serves 13–25 year olds in Cuyahoga County who are survivors of, or at risk for, human trafficking.

As we continue to observe Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside dedicated community partners who share our commitment to protecting and supporting vulnerable youth.

January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness, honoring survivors, and strengthening prevention efforts in our communities. Human trafficking often goes unseen, and this month serves as an important reminder of the power of education, advocacy, and compassion.

Human Trafficking Awareness Day, also known as Wear Blue Day, is observed on January 11. When this date falls on a Sunday, many choose to wear blue on Monday, January 12, as a way to show solidarity and support in their workplace and out in the community. Wearing blue helps spark conversations, raise awareness, and keep this critical issue in focus.

In honor of Human Trafficking Prevention Month this January, Bellefaire is excited to introduce the launch of our new Coordinated Navigation Program and to welcome Madyson “Mady” Radle (she/her) as the program’s Coordinated Navigator. 💜 Throughout the month, we’ll be sharing more about this program, our team, and the resources available to support young people in our community.

Mady holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Social Work at Cleveland State University. She brings a strong, trauma-informed approach and a passion for helping young people navigate complex systems and access meaningful support.

In this role, Mady serves as a key guide within Bellefaire’s Coordinated Navigation Program, which supports young people ages 13–25 in Cuyahoga County who are survivors of or at risk of human trafficking, including labor and s*x trafficking. Participants receive individualized, trauma-informed care through collaboration with a Coordinated Navigator and a Human Trafficking Peer Support Specialist, with services including crisis intervention, case management, resource linkage, therapy, and empowerment strategies to promote safety, stability, and healing.
