Our Home Instead team loves being out in the community! Our Client Care Manager, Grace Wilson, had a wonderful time presenting at the Brunswick Center of Southport, where she spoke with seniors about the importance of stress management and shared practical tips for maintaining emotional well-being. It’s always such a privilege to connect, educate, and support the incredible seniors in our Southport community. Thank you to everyone who joined us today – we truly enjoyed every opportunity to spend time together!

Today, the team at Home Instead of Brunswick County had the pleasure of spending time with the wonderful seniors at the Brunswick Center of Calabash for a presentation on healthy eating. Our team had so much fun putting together a yogurt bar and sharing sweet potato chips while talking about simple, nutritious choices that can make a big impact in every day health. It was a great opportunity to connect, learn, and enjoy some delicious treats together. We truly love partnering with the amazing staff at BSRI - Brunswick Senior Resources, Inc. and always appreciate the warm welcome from the Calabash community. It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do – supporting and uplifting seniors in the communities we serve. Thank you to everyone who joined us today. ♥️

“It’s really fantastic just to know that the work that I do counts.”

When Maureen joined Home Instead in 2019, advocacy and caregiving became her daily work. She has prevented choking incidents, caught a client mid-fall on a staircase, and sat through long, emotional afternoons with those facing Parkinson’s, dementia, or hospice. Families rely on her when situations feel overwhelming because she brings steadiness, practical skill, and a presence that helps people feel less alone.

Home Instead would like to extend a sincere thank you to Seaside United Methodist Church, Sunset Beach, NC for welcoming our team today to speak with the Dementia Caregivers Support Group. It was an honor to spend time with such a dedicated group of caregivers who are supporting loved ones living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

For those who may benefit, the Seaside United Methodist Church Dementia Caregivers Support Group meets on the second Tuesday of every month from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the church (1300 Seaside Road SW, Sunset Beach, NC). These meetings provide a supportive space for caregivers to connect, share experiences, and access helpful resources. Dad has a new girlfriend… now what? 😳

It can feel surprising. Maybe even a little uncomfortable. But growing older doesn’t mean growing out of the need for companionship and love.

In this episode of Caregiver Chats, Dr. Lakelyn talks with April Ibarra about what it looks like to respect independence and why these conversations work best when we come to the table as a partner, not a parent.

Women are often behind the scenes, doing it all—caregiving, household chores, career, and everything in between.

Nearly two-thirds of caregivers are women (61%), carrying a disproportionate share of emotional and physical labor (AARP). The hard work of caregiving should be more visible and a shared responsibility—not something that often falls on women.

Beyond International Women’s Day, let’s recognize the invisible load so many women carry and work toward a future where care is more balanced. And to every caregiver—make space for the rest, joy, and support you deserve.💚
