Hello All, I had a talk with one parent that was looking for information so I decided to send to everyone. The question was how Autistic children perceive sensory (hearing, seeing, feeling, smelling) the world. Documentation research from adults that are Autistic and now very verbal can describe things and in essence, they hear every sound as if they were all at the same volume. A typical sensory system will only pay attention to the important sounds and the rest will be muffled by the brain. This is why Autistic children are so sensitive to sound and overload of visual information or touch.

Kathleen A. Davis, M.A.CCC/SLP

Speech Pathologist with skills in all areas of communication disorders. I graduated with my master’s degree in 1981 and at that time, all therapist were trained in all areas of communication disorders. I have experience with both pediatric and geriatric population. Much of my training foundation involved in depth discovery of anatomy and physiology of the speech and hearing mechanisms, speech science study of sound, study of language development for children, the study of syntax, semantics, phonology, social pragmatics, comprehension and auditory processing with many hours of observation and a college fellowship year training in a local hospital in Ohio. These skills afforded me the knowledge to address many disorders but not limited to Articulation, Dyspraxia/Apraxia, Language Learning Disorders, Attention Deficit Disorders, Autism, Aphasia, Central Auditory Processing Disorder, Hearing Disorders (knowledge of Sign Language Training) and Alternative Augmentative Communication (Communication Boards). I have had behavioral training with both Reality Therapy and Hanen Centre for both Parents and Children.
