March is National Nutrition Month, which makes it a great time to rethink some of the health "ideas" we hear all the time.

A lot of nutrition advice online focuses on restriction, guilt and quick fixes. But real health is usually much simpler and much more sustainable.

Your body doesn’t need detox teas 🚫
Carbohydrates are not the enemy 🍞
Eating less isn’t always better ⚖️
And no single food determines your health 🍎

Instead, small shifts can make a meaningful difference. Building balanced meals, paying attention to hunger cues and letting go of food guilt can support a healthier and more sustainable relationship with food.

Swipe through for a few reminders about what a more balanced approach to nutrition can look like without fads or diet culture. ➡️

Winter had its time. The cozy nights, the earlier bedtimes, the slower mornings — and the quiet permission to do a little less. 🌙

That wasn't laziness. It was your biology responding to light.

But the light is changing now. Daylight Saving Time sends stronger signals to your circadian rhythm, and your body actually notices. Sleep, energy, mood and motivation all start to shift.

The dark asked you to rest. The light helps you move forward again. 🌷☀️

Colorectal cancer is showing up in younger people. So, what can you do? 💙

✅ If you’re 45 or older, talk to your doctor about scheduling a colonoscopy.

✅ If you’re younger than 45 and something feels off, don’t wait. Trust your gut. Literally.

No matter your age, it’s important to talk with your doctor about your personal risk. Based on your health history, they may recommend starting screenings earlier than 45.

The good news? Colorectal cancer is one of the most treatable cancers.

Swipe through to learn the signs, risk factors and why a colonoscopy could be one of the most important appointments you make. 👉

In honor of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we’re resharing Tara’s story. 💙

After losing her husband to colon cancer, Tara made a lifechanging decision — shifting from emergency nursing to endoscopy so she could help others through screening, early detection and education.

Today, she reminds us why this month matters:

Screenings save lives. Early detection changes outcomes. And if something doesn’t feel right, it’s worth getting checked.

Thank you, Tara, for turning personal loss into purpose, and for helping protect so many families in our community.

If you’re due for a screening, make the call. 💙

“My Lp(a) is high. Now what?”

Nuvance Health interventional cardiologist Dr. Intwala recently joined The Dusty Muffins to help break down what lipoprotein(a) is and what actually happens if your Lp(a) test comes back elevated.

In this conversation, they walk through the medication options that *may* be considered and why there isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Depending on overall cardiovascular risk, providers may look at statins, non-statin oral medications or injectable therapies that help lower LDL cholesterol and, in some cases, Lp(a). 💊💉

Here’s what many people don’t realize:

Lp(a) is still a relatively new focus in cardiology. While we understand what elevated levels can signal, clinical trials are ongoing to better understand how lowering Lp(a) impacts long-term heart health and outcomes. 🔬📊

If you think your levels may be high, start the conversation with your healthcare provider. Ask about testing. Stay informed. Knowledge is often the first step toward prevention. ❤️

Care doesn’t start at the bedside. 🏥

It starts with the teams who prepare for what happens before, during and after the unexpected. This month, we’re recognizing the Sharon Hospital Emergency Management team for the critical role they play in keeping care safe, coordinated and resilient.

Through planning, preparedness and response, the Emergency Management team supports continuity of care during emergencies, disruptions and high-risk situations.

By anticipating risk and strengthening readiness across the hospital, this team creates stability in moments that demand calm leadership and clear coordination. Their efforts allow clinicians and staff to focus on patient care even under challenging conditions.

Often behind the scenes but always essential, the Sharon Emergency Management team is a key part of delivering safe, reliable care.

We’re grateful for their expertise, preparedness and commitment as Unsung Heroes! 👏💙
